Title: The "Destruction"-topic .... Post by: Zündfunke on January 12, 2011, 23:19:00 pm I'd like to see your broken engine cases, cylinders, gearboxes, axles, rods, spindles...whatever!
All that stuff you learned to build your car the hard way. ;) Maybe there's a story behind the destruction. Who knows, maybe it helps someone to prevent destroying his parts the same way. Let me start with a broken rod from Fredy/DKT at DDD#8 last year. Pics stolen from http://luftfahrt-fred.blogspot.com/ [attachment=1] [attachment=2] Title: Re: The "Destruction"-topic .... I only have some pic`s from mild destruction.Anyway. W125 - 1,25 rockers - singel springs shimed - 6500rpm+ (http://cal-look.no/lounge/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=9673.0;attach=33670;image) (http://cal-look.no/lounge/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=9673.0;attach=33672;image) springs got soft after some km`s and the keepers/keys failed due to valve float. DAS Drag Day 05 at the first run of the meeting, no not the run it was in the burnout zone ::) (http://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/235448.jpg) stock gearbox with 1776cc And a quiet funny thing am friend of mine did when he assembled a typ-4 engine. He is/was more into watercooled vw`s. He had the problem when he torqued the flywheel he had NO axial play. Look what happened: (http://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/145393.jpg) (http://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/145397.jpg) case was scrap after that. No case pin was in the bearingbore... Title: Re: The "Destruction"-topic .... Post by: lowrenz on January 18, 2011, 23:19:46 pm these pushrods came out of a 1776cc engine that i'm rebuilding. it was still running!

Post by: JLH on January 21, 2011, 16:31:01 pm Massive destruction ;) When you say singel springs, do you mean org singel or heavy duty singelsprings? :)I only have some pic`s from mild destruction.Anyway. Post by: Fiatdude on January 21, 2011, 18:14:34 pm It is still hard for me to watch Pat's Fiat hit the wall and with that fireball tht followed -- -- we were lucky that day that most of the damage was to the car only and not to Pat
Title: Re: The "Destruction"-topic .... Post by: Ron Greiner on January 21, 2011, 23:20:53 pm Massive destruction ;) the pin was in it when it as assembled, he just flat out missed putting the pin into 3 of the bearing holesI only have some pic`s from mild destruction.Anyway. Title: Re: The "Destruction"-topic .... Post by: Felix/DFL on January 23, 2011, 18:17:30 pm @JLH: single HD Springs. With the W120 and 1,25 rockers it was no issue, but the W125 was definetly to much...
@Ron Greiner: That`s what it wanted to say, sometimes I don`t find the excact english words...The pins were in the case but he didn`t see them and just droped in the crank and stamped some additional holes in the bearings. |
