In the late 1960's, just before I was born, he and my mom were visiting Southland Mall, in Hayward, CA (Northern Calif) and within the mall, was an EMPI display on the floor, with about 7 cars lined up "dressed up" and equipped with various EMPI parts. He said there was at least two Karmann Ghias in the lineup. He thinks it was somehow connected to the VW dealer nearby, Humphrey Motors. At the time my parents had a brand new dark green 1969 Fastback, ordered through Johnson Pacific VW in Pleasanton. That's the car I came home from hospital in.
