There is this German (?) guy, I had his card in my wallet for years now, but have just thrown it away last month  :(

But I have seen him at the Bugshow in Brustem so he's still around. Shouldn't be to hard to track him down.

I recommend North Hollywood Speedometer service.
They have done plenty of specialty work for me over the years.

so, i'll have to send it back to the US? :D ;)

is this not something i can do myself?
it seems so easy to go from 6 to 4 cylinders on a monster tach. couldn't be that much harder on a porsche tachometer, right?

having it done is pretty expensive here and i already have taken the gauge apart...

p.s. do 911 tachometer suffer from a bouncing needle as well??

Why don't you sell it and buy a working 4 cyl model?

Why would I? It's not like they're the same.

I'll practise my german skills today and call him tomorrow then, I guess. Thanks!

4 cylinder tachs only go to 7 grand and have a redline in the 5,000 range. Weak ;)

you got that right ;)

didn't someone mention he drilled a hole in a 911 tach and converted it?
i've already got the ring and glass of. i reckon 3 screws and it's open. if it's a matter of rewiring, i should be a DIY job, or am i mistaken?  :-\

zach, do you know if a 911 tachometer suffers a bouncing needle as well? 914s do...

Diederick, you can also try Tacho Thomas < http://www.tacho-thomas.de > in Germany.
His work is really nice, as you can see under "Tachometer und Instrumente" and "Einzelstücke".

He is doing a 8000 rpm razoredge revcounter for me, because the scale of my original one ends at 6000 rpm. I can highly recommend him.
Cheers,

Georg

Not sure. I know the 356 tach in the Slingle Cab is a bouncy one... but I kind of like it :)

but i might just look into it. ;)

AssHull took apart his 68-69 911 tach last night and the switch from 4 to 6 wasn't exactly self explanitory. He's going to drop it off to a gauge place in Phoenix for the conversion.

i've got exactly the same tach lying around here, already took the glass off. if you can give me any info on the conversion that would be appreciated! there is literally nothing to find about it on google...

The place in Phoenix wanted $250 for the conversion! That was more than the tach!! We're going to give North Hollywood a jingle...

Dave and john, do you think they could take a ghia clock and turn into tach ?

danny just paint a needle on it and make engine noises with your mouth

Danny,

I think it's worth asking.

Over the years, I've had them rebuild some of my moldy old 6V 356 gauges with modern 12V electronics.

I like the idea... let us know what you come up with.
