I know this could be a way long shot, but here is what I saw today. I was coming back from Downey, on the 405 South, in the Fountain Valley area around 1:00pm, when I saw this VW being hauled on a Jerr-Dan flatbed.... This truck was driving north, so I only saw the rig for a few moments. What I saw on the bed was a '60s ragtop sedan, lowered in front, no chrome. It had a black vinyl top and a older white paint job. What really caught my eye was that it had Centerline wheels (which is what I was told Jim's car had for wheels from the then owner), and the deck lid was not there (it too was removed years ago). As it went by, I spotted the engine compartment, and with no deck lid, I could see there wasn't an engine. But what stopped me cold was that the rear apron area (under the deck lid), was painted black, just like Jim's car was...... The paint job was older, kinda of a dirty white appearance. I get goose bumps even thinking about what I saw for just a flash in traffic. No way to turn around and catch it... So we will never know.

Now we gather evidence from traffic cameras and satellite footage and triangulate it's destination !

That's what I heard from a former (post Holmes) owner. But who knows...

The Old cal looker is still here in So.Cal well actually the high desert. It's no where near the condition it used to be in back in the 70's and pretty much all the original parts that Jim had in it are gone. The present owner won't sell it as he think's it's worth a million because of who owned it and it's history but this is what some old dude was telling me as I was removing the magnesium brm's from his old cal looker last year  Grin

Whoever the current owner is, I'm surprised he isn't aware of the, eh, frugal nature of VW people... that alone you'd think would bring the price to a more reasonable level. Grin
