With the Winternationals just around the corner, it's time to turn back the clock to 1967 (my FAVORITE year  Wink)...

a few more pics...To me, the drags were a hell of a lot more interesting in the old days.  Not all the Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock dominated stuff they televise these days...there were Fuel Altereds, AA Gas Supercharged, and loads of Gassers.  Top Fuel was a lot simpler back then, too and you could run 'em on close to 100% nitro.

I was always big on Linda Vaughan, myself  Grin Roll Eyes Tongue  Some of the ads in those programs are pretty cool, too.  Those Cragers look a hell of a lot like BRM's, ya think?

Cool pics! I have always wanted a 40 Willys. Short wheelbase car + Hemi = going through the lights sideways.  Cheesy

I feel very lucky in my life to have raced and spectated at Lions Drag Strip.  It was a place we went to a lot as it was cheap entertainment and, if you were racing, very little hassel (other then the time somebody bagged my muffler and I got to drive home with the stinger on  Angry).  They had rollers (like a dyno) to start the fuel cars on and the whole deal was really laid back.  I remember racing my 69 sedan there shortly after buying it...it ran 19:00 flat almost every time and, getting a head start on everyone, made it to a final round only to find myself up against the Schley Bros!  I got nipped by a hair at the line...sigh.  Grin

I certainly agree with this statement! Always loved the Willys! I remember watching one Willys in particular, a '40 or '41 "Altered" driven by British racer Roy Webb (I think), during the race in Le Mans back in the early '80s. (These races were huge with 50,000 spectators packed around an improvised 1/8th-mile track). The sound of that car was incredible. I'll never forget that car.
Here is a picture of two Willys (Willyses?) coupes from the Grand National Roadster Show a few years ago.

Cool shot, Steph!  Speaking of the Grand National...it's on the 25th, 26th, and 27th of this month at Pomona.  I'm hoping to go Friday the 25th (day off)...gates open at noon...$20.  If you've never been and live in the area, it's a must see!

I'll be going to the Winternationals at Pomona on Friday 1st February, if anyone else wants to meet up. Friday's good – cheap entry and you get to see every Pro class run (before they break or DNQ!).

Roll Eyes If you go on the 1st, you'll have the whole drag strip to yourself...the Winternats are February 7th-10th...I just called NHRA for you.
