Hello All,

Just want to pass this idea around and see what you think.

At the last Outlaw meeting I bust both my axles on the start line, it didn’t even break the beams! Now looking at the data log I launched at 6000 rpm and 25 psi of boost.

So after speaking to loads of people about it, and getting the broken axles analyzed by the labs we use, I’ve come up with a new design

The one on the left is the broken one, the middle one is a new axle and the one on the right is my ali prototype to make sure it articulates in the box, which it does

The only drawback I can find making them this way is that you don’t get as much travel on the suspension, but that won’t matter for drag racing, it would only effect the off road people.

I’m going to make them out of much better material than the originals and gun drill them to stop the tear from starting.

Let me know what you think.
I know IRS would be the best option, but it would mean major reworking of the rear end of my car.

Always cool to see new stuff being developed.. You could also go for the Finnish Karpiola axles, said to be unbreakable..

I think your prototype is a good idea but that 90 deg corner might act as a sheer point and could give you more problems. May want to put a large fillet there, that will add strength.

that 90 deg corner wont be there in the actual one, i just milled the billet into shape, so i could see if the axle would articulate.

I will wire erode the spade and include a nice smooth transiton.

Not sure if they have a web site..
Send Jussi on here an e-mail on info@kuplapaja.com I think he can hook you up. I have heard talk about lifetime warranty on them.

Rune is right, Karpiola`s are made in Finland and they have a lifetime warranty. They cost around 600 EUR for a set.... but in my opinion worth every cent.

Jussi can hook you up with a set.

I have never actually heard anyone break karpiola axles, so I understand why he gives a lifetime warranty on them :-)
I invested  a good percentage of my cars value in the gearbox, so why not do the same on the axles, so I bought Karpiola :-)
