I remember seeing that car at Pomona a few years back, and what a mess it was then! Paint was faded and falling off, and many of the car's details were gone. Looks like the "current" owner has made a lot of changes to the engine, exhaust, headliner and wheels. Not exactly a Shaky Jake car any more.... Interesting.

Shakey's car is vastly different than when he completed it.  When the car was "fresh" it was on display inside the Auto Haus Costa Mesa store, 1953 Newport Blvd.  I spent many an hour talking with Shakey (Chuck) regarding the build on this car when he would be in the store.  I've attached a photo when the car was new.  This was shot at one of the Bug-Ins.

I had to chuckle at the description... "1776 crate motor." Grin  Obviously a muscle car guy wrote it up.  Lol.

Sold for $10,670 including buyers commission... which means that the hammer price was $9700, the seller got $8730 for it and Barret Jackson cleared $1940 for the sale.

If it's the same owner, I saw the car about 10 years ago. The guy was a pinstriper and sign painter in Upland, CA.
He shared with me that he had been "Shakey's" best man at his wedding. Upon Chucks passing, he was given the '70.
He sure didn't come out that far ahead dollar wise. Given ALL the fantastic body mods that were done by Neil Emory- a MASTER of bodywork, that car would cost 5 to 10 times the selling price to recreate today.

Yes and no... probably more than it's worth but less than it would cost to recreate... without the famous owner.
