...I think you guys are looking at this all wrong...  What if this buyer is building a period cal-look DKP clone?  Scott built one and everyone thought it was the coolest thing ever-(since the original.)  Russell has a few clones and everyone drools over them.  He has even painted the names of the original builders/drivers on the doors.  He didn't do it to try and fool anyone into thinking it was really their car or that he was them. He did it to pay tribute to them because he can appreciate the history.  I would bet that if anyone was building a clone of a DKP car that they too would pay through the nose for that last little bit to make it complete.

As long as he isn't printing off the sticker and passing them off as real there shouldn't be a problem.  People pay plenty of money for early Bug-In dash plaques even though they didn't attend the event.

This quite a interesting thread as it brings up several very good points on both side of the argument.

DKP is what it is and for those outside the inner circle (many) it's fair to say they, we, I wish we could also be invited to the top table?

If that can be achieved by owning a pices of Genuine DKP memorabilia then so be it...

I can fully understand that DKP members (old & current) might feel it important to keep club items amongst themselves, but after such a long history thats is probably not fully/realistically achievable.

I'm sure when these decals were made and handed round, nobody thought for a second that all these years later one decal would attract such money or so much opinion..

That said, DKP does have (rightly so) a degree of reverance in the VW World but I wouldn't like to see the 'Golf Club' mentallity taking over when an item such as this comes onto the market.

Others have already said how easy it would be to replicate these decals with modern technology, but as far as I know that hasn't happened and that fact alone would probably suggest that  it isn't going to happen any time soon either?

I don't like it when things like owning such a tiny peice of DKP history, sparks off such an inquisition, surely/realistically  we're all in this together aren't we?

I'm not siding with any particular camp here, only on the side of sensible perspective.

That's over  $600 US...and that's nuts. For that kind of money we'll be tearing into old
scrapbooks and pulling the thumbtacks out of old decals pinned to garage walls.
