Last night I received an e-mail from Mike with bad news.  I know he has worked on this car for years to get it back on the road and like so many of us Mike has faced tough times financially but kept on track with the car.  I think any of us can understand how Mike feels at the moment, but I know the DKP guys and others will be there to assist him in anyway we can.

Attached are a few photos I took of the car at it's first outing, Bugs for Breakfast just a few weeks ago.

Drove the VW to Long Beach

STOPPED AT REDLIGHT AT Carson and Lakewood noticed some smoke but thought it was from Diesel pickup next to me.

Turned left and smoke followed pulled off the street.

Turned off the motor and saw flames

Gas line leaked and started fire.

Burned back end of car.

Very distressing.

Have to start all over, no Nicks for a while

This is sad news, a real kick in the guts. I know this is closing the barn door after the horses got out,
but here's what I carry in my car.  http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HTR-HG250B/

It's effective on fuel fires without all that corrosive powder mess.  Good luck on the repairs  Wink

what a bummer,  this seems to be the cause of most vw fires.

Hope its back on the road soon.

John I got "knocked off" The Lounge for a few days and when I was able to get back on, "I SEE THIS"!

I cannot imagine how Mike must feel after all his efforts.  This is very sad news.  Does he know exactly what happened?  I'm willing to help him out in any way, just let me know.  I plan to stop by Nick's tonight with Troy for a short while, maybe we will meet?

John,  I received another e-mail from Mike and although he will not be at Nick's tonight due to the Super Bowl he will be there next time.  Beyond this I have no further details of what happened.

I'll be at Nick's today and we can discuss it further.

Oh No......Tough to hear especially after all the blood, sweat, $$, and dedication that goes in to building a nice car.  Hope that he can get through turning things around and repairing the damage.

Earlier in the week I sent Mike an e-mail asking for updates.  At this time I've not had a reply.

Mike's car was repaired and back to 100%.  It is a PERFECT example of how the beginnings of the Cal-look era was.  Mike had the car at Nick's Friday and at the Classic.    Grin Grin Grin Grin
