Hello everyone!

My name is Jeffrey Gomez and I used to be very active on the old Cal Look forum and on the STF as "jeff a.k.a. kaferboy". I also used to freelance a bit for VW Trends when Dave Cormack was there.

I have been out of the game for a long time now, I'd guess at least 7 years! My how the VW community has changed and stayed the same in certain respects over that time period. Anyhow, I am glad to be back. I see some familiar names still floating around.

I have a 1967 bug that is in the process of getting a thorough and complete overhaul. The body is already off the pan and the new shiny bits are in boxes waiting to be put on. I'm going to build a 2443cc, 13:1 comp, FK-89 and run nitrous for added umph.

Anyhow, it is great to be back and hello to everyone. I look forward to asking many more questions in the months ahead.

Cheers!

It got shut down by Ryan Price. Apparently, as a freelancer, I overstepped my bounds (albeit to write a more interesting article than what we were doing at the time).

Never fear, I am at a new magazine and we are actually smack in the middle of a bigger project! You are the first to know Deano.

We are doing a 15 part video series, WITH Volkswagen of America and SEMA, to restore my '67.

We are working with everyone from Hurst, Holley, NOS, ARP, Autometer, EMPI, PPG, Retrosound, MSD, Total Seal, Optima, QA1, Rancho, System 1, Coker Tire and many others.

I guess it is my salvation from the first failed project, except this time it is the entire car.

What was the Bugpack engine project?  I, at one time, did some freelance work for VW Trends (about three articles in total)... had a fairly elaborately unpleasant experience with the magazine circa fall 2002, but that's ancient history.

I have to admit I'm a little surprised to see VWOA in the listing there, as a lot of stateside VW folks have varied thoughts on their lack of support for the vintage VW enthusiast base (i.e., they only come around when they have an opportunity to profit off of it, such as the '98 release of the New Beetle).

The project was supposed to be a build series that I had set up, then got shot down AFTER I had already contacted a bunch of companies, got them interested and had parts already delivered. Much to the consternation of quite a few people. Deano even got flack for it (sorry for that again!).

And yes, VW has been a social buzzkill for us in the hobby. The project (which I will announce formally on Monday) is their foray into bridging gaps that they have created over the years with lawsuits and being aloof from us all.
