Like the state highway signs say throughout the state, “Don't mess with Texas !!!

"The Houston  chronicle newspaper" in Houston, Texas March 5th, 2009

Last Thursday night around midnight, a woman from Houston, Texas was arrested, jailed, and charged with manslaughter for shooting a man 6 times in the back as he was running away with her purse.

The following Monday morning, the woman was called in front of the arraignment judge, sworn
in, and asked to explain her actions.  The woman replied, “I was standing at the corner bus stop
for about 15 minutes, waiting for the bus to take me home after work.  I am a waitress at a local
cafe...  I was there alone, so I had my right hand on my pistol that was in my purse that was
hung over my left shoulder.  All of a sudden I was being spun around hard to my left.  As I
caught my balance, I saw a man running away from me with my purse.  I looked down at my right hand and I saw that my fingers were wrapped tightly around my pistol.  The next thing I remember is saying out loud, "No way, punk! You're not stealing my pay check and tips."  I raised my right hand, pointed my pistol at the man running away from me with my purse, and squeezed the trigger of my pistol 6 times!”

When asked by the arraignment judge, "Why did you shoot the man 6 times?  The woman replied under oath, "Because, when I pulled the trigger of my pistol the 7th time, it only went click."

The woman was acquitted of all charges.   And she was back at work, at the cafe, the next day!

Now that's gun control....!!!

What a pity the pistol didn't fire seven times.  The world needs to eliminate skum bags like that guy, but of course I have no opinion on the subject.  Shocked Shocked Shocked

Right I'm really gonna stir things up now........

Firstly from what I can gather people think its OK to KILL another human being  Undecided

Secondly doesn't this make thats woman no better than the "criminal"  Undecided

And thirdly shooting someone in the back 6 times and telling the judge that if there was 7 bullets you would have shot him 7 times shows an "intent to kill" ie "manslaughter"  Undecided

Just an outsiders point of view  Smiley

I'm with Lee.... I'm not saying the guy doesn't deserve punishment.

I don't think even Texas has the death penalty for theft?

Not good.

WHOA THAR COWBOYS!

We should be careful with this thread... I've just done a quick search of the Houston Chronical archives and SNOPES.com and could not find this article... no big deal, either I missed it or somebody made it up as a joke... whatever...

Your opinion is welcome here, even if it comes from a "subject of the Crown", who is forbidden to
own almost all firearms.
Legal possesion and use of firearms may be a can of worms we should not open? Like a belief in God or
sexual orientation, it provokes strong passions on both sides of the subject.

Personally I'm here to put a smile on my face.  Cheesy

If you have the right to bear arms, how come you don't have the right to arm bears? Huh

You Americans are lucky...
1) You have the right to bear arms
2) You have the right to bare arms (also known as "the T-shirt amendment")
3) You have the right to drink beer
4) You have the right to drink bare (also known as "the nude drinking amendment")

I'm with Kafer and Monki on this one  Shocked

I don't think it's coincidence that a country which allows people to have guns has one of the highest murder rates int he world. Can you not own a machine gun in certain States? What on earth are you going to need a machine gun for?!?!? Bad pigeon problem? Angry beavers  Shocked

I understand this is the "offtopic" section of the forum, but it should still reimain somewhat related to what we are here for.
Gun control is a topic I don't think is necessary to discuss on this cal-look forum.
I know we will never agree on this topic, and it can be debated for forever and will end up messing with the good vibe we have here.
I suggest we end this debate right now... There are other forums for discussing politics :-D
