it isn't a scrap yard, its a Ranch in Sun Valley, CA.  And the trailer is Darrell Vittone's.

Nice photo Fabs,
Doug Church was the owner of "Modern Specialist" independent Volkswagen / Porsche repair in Long Beach, CA... My first employers (as a VW mechanic) and VW mentors were Herb Roberts and Hugh Tietsworth of H&H Motors, again in Long Beach...  Herb and Hugh worked with Doug at Modern Specialties back in the late 60's along with some young guy named Jim Dutcher... H&H used to talk about the old dragster often.

I believe that was the same car hanging in the rafters of another VW shop in Long Beach named TNT Automotive... I met the owner, Tom Wright as his Snap-on Tools dealer in the early 80's. I'd ask him every week, "you ready to sell it?" He'd always say "not this week"

We ended up buying it from Tom Wright in the mid 90's   It was lengthened 12" & had no motor, but it was the real deal. I remember reading about it in a old Hot Rod magazine annual that I had since I was a kid. Jim McNear had found it & a few of us went in on it & bought it  and then restored it. It was quite a thrash to get it ready for Classic 98'. I found some photos of us with Dean Lowry  & some of the owners at the time , Jim McNear, Ron Wood, Myself & Mark Herbert. It was a day to remember.  Bill

Joe Aragona's Mini Funny III circa 1980. Joe built the car back in the early 70s

And 2006... still being raced.
