This Italian Gasser is very representative of the early drag cars! Nice work.

These cars really look very 80s... Roll Eyes

The yellow chop is not french, it's Reinhard Hamburger's car from Hanau/Germany, hence the name "Flying Hamburger". Last I remember it was sold to the Netherlands.

As for most of the pics on this thread that are more drag racing VWs than gassers.  Wink Roll Eyes

I found the location for the photoshoot for 'Made in Italy' by using Google Earth. I've never been to Rome, but I heard it was hard to find and open location. I did a search on Google Earth and looked around until I found somewhere open - it looked like an old air strip. So I told our photographer Paul about this location he went found out it was owned by the Italian Air Force and then he and the owner Papi Aurellio went and got permission to do the shoot. We were originally looking at shooting the car in Rome outside the Colosseum, but felt a drag racer needed to be on an open two lane blacktop.
It'd be good to get permission to hold a drag day there!

So - thank you Google Earth!

Ivan,
The track location of shooting day is a monumental military air strip, or part that aircorps left to remeber the airfield couse it was the location where long time ago Whrite brothers's Flier took airborn and it was first time an airplate took off from Italian surface,  located in the actual monumental park of "Centocelle" (Transalted as "one thousand cells") that is a suburb of the city.
We entered in the park with a baywindow Westfalia with the car on a trailer passing trough garden chairs, granma's with children and running people, early in the mourning so anybody (policemans) did'nt saw us done in silence and in a hurry, we got the car on the strip and helped Paul shooting the pictures.
It would be nice to organize a drag day just in the city of Rome but unfortunately the strip is just 300 meters long/short and nobody could ever stop after a launch.
thanks.

ivan, thanks for the compliments. as has already 'told you my dear friend Luca (gobug) to be my first experience that "made in Italy" on 402 meters and the time' was 11.9 seconds. with a track with a little glue, no rev limiter, bosch 009 ignition distributor with normal, regular gasoline, and a compression of only 10 to 1 on the fore-and aerodynamic problems. for next season I will have 'a MSD, 116 octane gasoline, 14 to 1 compression and aerodynamic problems solved. for next year I intend to do 10 seconds. certainly I and my friend Luke (gobug) and "made in Italy" we will attend the "eupean bug. Ron Groff's race car, he had a black street car that was very similar. He crashed this red car @ Carlsbad in 84. They left it in the weeds @ the top end of the track until the event was over. Never saw either one of them again.

Thats what I thought! He was takeing autobody at cerrittoes when brent and I were there in about 1980-83, Seems like everyone there from time to time had a hand in helping chop that oval at school . Kinda amazeing looking back at the guys into VWs that where going to cerrittos back then!!

Not sure where to put these pictures, so here ya go...
Visited with Paul & Mark Schley yesterday and watched Mike Walraven's new Gasser movie. AMAZING! I was just blown away by the quality of the movie, the footage, the interviews...
The 2nd picture shows a poster made by the Schleys, featuring the cover of the DVD.
