hey guys,
I'm right before assembling my engine and still did not choose a cam. Here are the specs:

dpr 78.4 crank
mahle 90.5 pistons
drd L5 heads cnc
weber 40idf for first registration - later 48idf/ida
torsten pieper tappets - like witzemann 26mm
scat 1:1.25 ratio rockers on GB pushrods
straight cut gears.

The engine should be a little weekend warrior. good to drive on the streets, torque from about 2500 up.
maybe some drag racing once or twice a year.

my options until now were a W120 or FK10 or a special grind from jürgen nowak (I dont have the specs right now) but it is about 320 degree and 13mm lift at valve with those rockers.

So its up to you, please tell me what you think

The 120 Cam should be smooth,depending on the headwork ofcourse and can be used with your 1.25's It is ground with advance in  it but you should dial it in with about 4 degrees so it will drive like a stocker from the bottom RPM range. The fk 10 has about 10 more degrees duration at .050 cam lift and would require higher lift ratio rockers. And would come on at a much higher RPM.

primary I wanted the FK10 - but then i thought that maybe this cam would bring the right uotput at higher rpm's than I wanted.
The Engine should bring much torque from lower rpm and then constantly rising power. 6500 is the limit i think..

The FK 10 is too much for an engine like this . I most use Pauter cams , may be the W 125 would be fine !!

Or Web 121/125. Maybe advanced 2 degrees if you want more bottom end. - Use stock rockers.
Or Scat C45. It pulls wide, but does not yield super high peak power. likes 1,25 rockers, even 1,3.

IMO, a W120 cam with your 1.25's will work very well with your combo.  A W125 would probably be OK, but I think you'd need bigger carbs to get the most from it.   Cool

Hey Mark, so what your saying on the E120, advance it 4 more degree's for a stronger bottom?

IMHO a 4 degree advance on the W120 is not needed in a stroker combo like that. UNLESS you wanna lump around town at idle. I mainly use Web cams over Engle, but some of them are very close. The Web 110 is equal to the W120. With similar heads and a tad more cc. I pull 140 hp @ 5700 rpm with massive torque from just over idle (with 40 mm Dells) With 45 Dells it would easily pull another 5 maybe even 10 hp
Or take the Scat C45 cam. It is one of the best allround hi duration cams on the market IMO.

i just got a pair of 44idf. so the 40's gone.

I read about a DKP car with W140 cam and 48IDA on a 2007ccm engine. I think it will be a quite rough ride, or am I wrong?

I'm currently thinking about a FK8 - little more lift and a little less duration than the W120/125... ?!

Mate, you need to make up your mind.
I thought you said you already have 1.25 and its too late to go for 1.4, so forget about the FK8 and definitely forget about W140.
Listen to some of the guys that have tried and tested the cams specified, I would second using the W120/1.25 combo but you fail to mention C/R which will really help choosing a cam.

The sheets I have from engle say W-Series 1:1.1 or 1:1.25 and FK-Series 1:1.25 or 1:1.4 - this is why i thought I'm right with 1:1.25 for the first running engine.

If neccesary I can also change to 1.4 - but the 1.25 are here and I have to keep a look at the budget cause I'm studying right now ...  Wink

I also suggest Web 110 for a fast street motor, that you don't need to wind past 6500. The 44IDF's will work very well with that cam, as will your 1.25 rockers. No need to advance the 110 in your size (cc) engine either.

2007 with the w140 was probally Scott Bakkens red 67 from back in the day. you'll need very close ratios so forget about that if on a budget. fk8 with 1.4's not 1.25's

Engle w120 with 1.25's, 44IDFs could work out nice for your budget like some people allready suggested.

I have the W120 (11mm lift@cam) in my 1776cc

My list:
* (36IDF with 31vents)
* C/R 9:1
* CB 044 - 40x35.5   No porting! thats why there is the torque Wink
* 31mm exhaust system
* stock 1.1:1



Could drive it all day in 2nd gear. Very nice combo, should do much better when having a 2liter.

Made 101hp, but this time i rebuild the motor and hope for some 115-120hp. Next are IDA's. See my build under www.cal-look.nl/forum and there memberrides (black callook)

Its not because of the heads that the torque comes in rather low. Its the small dia exhaust. The reason it "stops" making power at about 5 grand is a combination of the heads reaching their max flow at the lift produced and the small exhaust. With better ports in the heads it shold easily produce 110 - 115 hp (with 32 vents) (we do that with ported stock valved heads and same CR and 160 + Nm torque) The addition of IDA´s on such engine will reveal another 5ish hp. That´s it.

That would be Carlos' car. He has an interesting cobination. Moderate sized valves, very generous intake ports/carbs and the Engle 140. I'm not sure where his cam is advance or retard wise. Two things I would change on Carlos' motor for more go... larger exhaust system (header and muffler) and use 1.25 rockers on intake. the way the car is setup currently, get to business, especially over 4500rpm. The 140 isn't the friendliest "cruise" cam, that's for sure, but it will send his motor to 7000 in a hurry. I know, I've driven it very hard. Oh yeah, he needs to ditch the points too.  Roll Eyes
