Thanks guys!
The aim is EBI2. The body should be painted end of he month, so that's a few months left for re-assembly...

I got Laurent on the phone yesterday, he told me that the front end is finished!
Both wheelhouses, heater channels, new front bulkhead, old inner nose assembly but with new washer reservoir section, new spare tire well, new apron & weather-strip channel all round...
Also, because i won't have heating and i will not use the fresh air box under the hood, every unnecessary latch and fitting bracket has been removed for a cleaner look.
Doors are fitted and aligned, all trim holes already welded!
Now to the back!

Jesus christ, that's a big hole! :oI know your bodyman knows what he's doing, but wouldn't it be easier to leave the top of the outer quarter in place? So you wouldn't have to unpick the gutters? The way I've seen it before is that you'd cut through the outer quarter just under where a semaphore arm would finish on an earlier car and through the c-pillar down to the bottom of the gutter. Either that or along the chrome trim line, then you've got a nice flat panel to lose the weld along.

Hey Roland,
Wasn't this an magazine featured "quality" cal looker from some club members that you bought?
Seems that they kinda screwed you... or did you now it was this 'good'?
Anyway, good luck with the re-assembly!

Thanks people!
Diederick, i'm only doing that once, so i want it done right!
Niel, we talked about that with my "bodyman" and he told me that this is the best way to keep the whole panel clean & straight and make the welds where you can't really see them. Also, when the old metal is totally removed, he can check under it for surface rust and treat it. Again, doing this only once...
Jelle, the car had a feature in volksworld yes, and when i bought it well, it was not that expensive. A little expensive for what i have to do now, but not that much money. It was clean on the outside but never sold as a showcar. I was 16, not really "aware" of every rust point i had to check and i kinda fell in love with it, so...
Tonight's pic: hole is closed!

Superb! Wish I'd done that with my '70 - it's had all the repair panels on the rear quarters that you can buy!

Man that is crazy insane. Be sure you do some rust protection before you weld it all up. Hate to have to go back in 20 years and redo all that. lol.

Gone gone gone, even on saturdays!
(well saturday morning, the guy has wife and kid, he's gotta have some family time!)
Last piece of the puzzle: the rear luggage compartment. He had to modify it to make it look like the original one... Piece of cake!
This is just fitted, moday he'll weld all that. And then, to preparation before paint!

Gary, you're so true! I look on the samba and in the American magazines and "major rust" is a bubble the size of your thumb nail! Roland has gone to extreme lengths to make sure his car is the best - no visible welds other than the factory places - but most cars that have been used as daily drivers need at least bumper mounts, body mounts, heater channels and front and rear lower quarters!
