I went with the Americans: 6" rim at the back and a 5.5" at the front.

Could you show some pics, please?

I would love a set of original spider/empi 8's, they look SO different from the copies that you can spot them a mile off, and they are a really nice wheel. Painted gold too!

Lemmerz Sprint stars are cool wheels too, and reasonably priced. Jo Clifford has a set in the for sale section. (4 not 5 now, I bought the spare to complete my set).

4 stud ERCO's look cool, but I know that I'm probably in the minority with that one!

Wash your mouth out young man! Angry Beautiful wheel, much better than the Porsche pattern ones! I'd love a set and I'm still kicking myself for turning down two seperate sets because I couldn't afford them. The price? £100 a set, with tyres each time...  Roll Eyes

 Cheesy

They are a love it or hate it type of wheel. Same with the KN Gemini's. Although I've owned a pair and a half of them, I'm still undecided. The're a cool wheel on a late type 3, definately, but I'm not so sure on beetles. I've got a pair left and I'll probably keep them for use with slicks. I've got a set of five original Empi 8-spoke Spyders and a set of four 4.5" chrome Sprintstars, so I'm a bit spoilt for 4-lug wheels! Wink

Are they falling apart the same way the 5 spokes do?

I don't believe so. I've not heard of it anyway. Of my five, I know that my spare has had some welding work done on the rim, but I don't know if it was due to cracking or kerb damage. The other four are in very nice condition, but they we're all fully polished in the '80's, so I'll need to get them blasted to get the texture back on the centres. I think they're stronger than the five spokes because of the extra spokes and obviously less gap between them as a result.

IMHO empi 8's take a lot of beating on a late bug but only if they are finished right and have the right tyres ie 145 front and 165/175 rears

case in point shown below

Try this..

That's XZX 145s up front and BF Goodrich 205/70 on the rear. I've now got Toyo 155s up front (the XZX's are now way too expensive for me).

nice car i love those american racing
