It was just a matter of time but that does not make it less impressive. Congrats to the Red Baron team!

Keith S. put it best in the photo caption of Chris Bubetz's Pro Turbo car in one of his books, I can't remember which one off the top of my head and it went, I believe something like this: Chris Bubetz broke the last barrier with an 8.93 at 150-plus miles per hour (I know these figures aren't exact, but bear with me). It's highly unlikely any conventional full-bodied VW Beetle will ever run seven-seconds in the quarter mile, but then, who would have ever thought they would run in the eights?

That thing is going to be insane when they get the big heads on it! They are switching from Angle Flows to 4" bore CNC ported Strip Dominators. Are they going to be the first to 7.50s? Sacramento is going to be awesome in a few weeks!

Funny thing is -- -- Scott was saying they were down on power and could hardly get the thing up on the rev limiter -- reason for the long reaction time

very cool what they have done congrats to them. and stealth what do you mean big heads THE A FLOWS ARE PLENTY BIG. if anything there going to be doing A ABOUT FACE if anything if they go that route at least for awhile when they get ALL the GREMILEN,S out and belive me they havem every head dose. either way congrats to the boys for upseting vw HISTORY thats the coolest. UD . btw if they do happen to go qwicker with the new heads that will be great. at least we know that the LEGENDARY ORIGINAL 27 YEAR old/new DESIGN AFLOWS DID IT FIRST and you cant take it away from the heads. FIRST (DOOR SLAMER) IN THE 9S old style (NA). AND FIRST (DOOR SLAMER) IN THE 7S new style (HAIR DRYER.) couldnt ask for anthing better. UD.

Well done.
Can someone explain how you can go faster with a lower top speed is this all down to reaction time and launch ? As in may it was 8.277/175.63mph (hotvw)and now under 8sec but slower at 175mph, sorry if its a dumb question, just wondered ?

HP is your MPH and Torque is how quick you can get to it -- so they are still making the same HP but they have either found a better torque curve and/or got what they had to the ground.
The fastest 60' time I know of in a BUG is 1.18 by Frank the Banks car a lot of V8 cars are sub 1 sec to the 60 -- top fuel cars are around .83 to the 60' -- most PROMOD VW's float around the the 1.22-1.23 range -- If there is anywhere for a VW to pick up some ET it is in the 60' range
Your reaction time is measured from the lighting of the first light on the tree to the green light which is WHEN you can leave there are 2 different trees a pro tree where perfect is .400 and the sportsman tree which perfect is .500, BUT .... Your time doesn't start until you break the beam by actually leaving. That is where the PACKAGE term comes in -- -- it is a number where the reaction time and your ET are added together -- -- This where someone who leaves with a .400 or .500 (as the green light comes on - perfect reaction time) and runs a 10.00 beats a car with a RT of .549 or .649 (a +.149 after the green has lighted)and runs a 9.86. Margin of victory would be .009
If you notice on the Baron's time slip his RT was terrible (a 1.89 on a .40 tree) because he was waiting for the turbo to spool up but it did not affect his ET.

It's all about getting the car moving from rest. Taking things to the extreme, if a Top Fuel dragster blasted off the line and shut off 200ft out, it might reach, say, 150mph and then go on to coast through the 1/4 mile in 10 seconds slowing to just 90mph through the lights. I'm making these figures up, but bear with me… Now take a VW Bug. it blasts off the line, covers the 1/4 mile in 10 seconds but at 135mph... Same ET, but vastly different speeds. Why? Because the T/F car has accelerated to its full potential early on. That takes massive torque, which the Red Baron has in spades.

Actually I think the mile per hour looks correct and the Sacramento ones were inaccurate for some reason. Wayne

It was either 1990 or 1991 when I got to see my first VW powered 7 second run (the Folts & Schuh rail). It was amazing to see, and now to hear a back halved sedan has run a 7 is unbelivable, and a simply outstanding achievement! Congratulations to all those involved.
