Hi What filters are the best for my 48IDA? I am useing the engine for steet. But I don´t what brand/type of filters that will be the best. So far I have only found K&N and Ramflo. I have two types of stacks. The original stacks and some who are wider, about 98mm outside at the top. But are there any filters that will fit wide stacks? I think the stacks are called "Pro-Stacks", but I am not sure. If anybody have some for sale, new or used at a good price, you are very welcome to let me know. I have just read that some have tried that the foam-style filters, and that they were being suck in to cabs. So I could sound like that K&N style is the way to go. Anybody who have some other experiences?

Yes I know a lot of people are driving without, because they think it look´s cool. But I have decided that I want to run with filters.

i bought some filters a few years ago, from proformance i think it was. don't have a pic though, but i know other people (e.g. Sarge) run/ran them too.
they're mesh with a rubber edge that slides onto the stack. no increase in height either.

But how good are the Mesh filters? I have never seen them in real life, but at the pictures it look´s like they will only remove "big" stones. How good are the filter funktion, when it is dusty?

You´re talking about these... [ Attachment: You are not allowed to view attachments ] I think they´re only good to keep birds and bees away from your motor.

I've heard horror stories about 20% horsepower loss with the Geers type... Fairytales or fact?

no idea, but i can't see why they would? mesh filters are far less "distortive" than foam filters...

I have read somewhere that some have had problems with the foamtype, being sucked into the stacks. Any of you who have tried that? So there is 3 options: K&N, Foam-style and Mesh.

Aircooled.net sells foamies with a inside spring installed so they won't get sucked in.

I have received some very interesting information about K&N and clones. http://shoptalkforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=133791&p=1042182#p1042182I have never seen the mesh-style, only pictures, so I don´t know how good they are. I just think they look so coarse. So I think that i will use some foam filters.

Geers claims dyno proven zero hp and flow loss.

Geers claims dyno proven zero hp and flow loss. If one looks at the aerodynamical properties of a stack with and without the filter it seems incredible that there is no difference in air flow. But if it´s proven, it´s proven.

Hello. In general it is correct that those mesh filter on the stacks kill power. But I have also seen engines that absolutely did´nt care. Dont ask me why, because I dont know. Foam filters definitely rob some power. Typically about 10 hp per 200 hp. When these filters are used, it is ESSENTIAL!!! that the engine gets dynoed/jetted WITH the filters or it WILL run rich. With the K&N style filters there are normally not much of a difference with and without filters. Yes, the K&N style filters are not that good UNLESS you remember to oil the filter units. Then they increase efficiency by about 35% without sacrificing flow. ACE´s filters are really good and does not rob much power if any.
In Blobs case I think the first question needs to be "how much room is there?" After that we/he can begin thinking of types of filters. T
