For those interested in another side of VW Motorsport.

Official Results/Times attached.

Race report.
Mt Panorama, Bathurst, Australia's most iconic motor racing track, simply because it is actually a public road, not a dedicated racetrack, and it is a daunting place.
Only things to hit if you come unstuck is walls of concrete.
Eric Ellis, I'm sure you have a map of this place somewhere?

It is also a major change in elevation from bottom to top.

The first two rounds of the NSW Hillclimb Championship were held here last weekend, and it was fantastic as usual. http://hillclimbnsw.com/

The "Esses" is the first raceday on Saturday, and that involves a Hillclimb starting on "Conrod Straight" and climbing up through the "Dipper" (massive undulating drop) the "wrong way".
I say wrong because the normal direction of a Circuit race is down this part of the hill not up it.

This is with a new engine combination, and a completely "new" car to me, just one set of four runs on it last year, as in the "Autometer setup" thread.

The last corners of the "Esses" on Saturday. Thanks to Colin Mayman for the Videos.

The last corners of "Mountain Straight" on the Sunday.

It was raining on the first run (which is a lot of fun at this place  Tongue )

And this the first dry run of the day:

A couple of great photos on the Saturday.

Mine is the VWR32 Blue 1970 model bug. (different class to the others as I have some rear fibreglass) 1916cc 48mm IDF's, Twin Plugged.
Sports Sedans 1301cc-2000cc class.

Heath Campbell in the Original VW Burnt Orange "Garfield" 1968 bug. 1916cc 46-48?mm Throttle bodies, Haltech F7 Injected.
Improved Production car Class 1601cc-2000cc

Colin Mayman in the immaculately presented Midnight Black Superbug. 1916cc 48 IDA's.
Improved Production car Class 1601cc-2000cc

Glenn Torrens in the Suzuki racing yellow 1968 Bug. 1916cc 40mm Solex/Kadrons. Twin Plugged.
Improved Production car Class 1601cc-2000cc

Thanks to Jeff Walsh for the pics.

I recognize those hills and some of the guys in the photos - Glenn Cleanse Racing for the win! Grin

What Greg neglected to mention is that he was the class winner of The Esses and Mountain Straight races last weekend at Mount Panorama near Bathurst, AU. Way to go, Greg!

I was lucky enough to get to attend one of the AU hillclimb events a couple of years ago. It was a cool deal overall, but seeing the VW participants was the best.

If you guys are interested, there's lots more on Greg's hillclimb car and adventures in his "Hillclimb not Drag racing, but lots of fun" thread.

Here are a few pics that I shot when in the land of Oz (more here):

Down the hill to where the race up the hill begins

Nathan boogies up the hill, just before getting into "The Pinch"

Why is the steering wheel on the passenger side?? Wink

A quick trip through the flower garden...

Some latest info on this for those interested.

I had some mishaps changing gearboxes and consequently almost lost a finger, so I missed a race.

This is a weekend ago.

I will post all the other guys that are racing above, Col Heath and Glenn later in the weekend, when I get a chance.

But I just compiled the list of my runs, out car and incar, that Colin has kindly put on YouTube.

Outcar is good anyway, just use plenty of Volume when watching and watch all the way the through, as even when out of site, I must say that when I can get on the throttle, the revs on board and the sound is awesome. (I think  Grin) I've got shiftlight set at 9000RPM.

Turn it down a bit for Incar, as I’ve stuffed that up again, stupid settings too loud, but use fullscreen in YouTube, if you want to watch the Tacho properly.

 Greg

Run 2 OutCar

Run 2 corresponding InCar

Sound I have to get right, sorry.
