I just stopped by to see these new spun aluminum wheels in person. They are by far, the closest design match to an original Deano wheels I've seen (they have the correct radius). But they are not light-weight by any stretch. These would be a true road wheel, with thicker material (.225 compared to .125 or less...), bead lock and CNC made (much like a Flat 4 compared to a real BRM). So far, they have 4x15, and 6x15s, wide-five. Their 4s match my 4.5 DDS so closely. Right now the 4s run $160ea. They have a 2-inch back spacing....

Whoa, coooool!  Are there any pics of these wheels available both standalone and installed on a Bug?

I will take some side-by-side photos this weekend, since I did buy some 4s. They weight 10lbs each, so if you are planning to go serious drag racing, then these might not be the lightest choice. I look at them as a wheel I would use on the street without any issues, much like a Flat 4 BRM copy.. I did notice the lug holes are 14mm, but they are counter-sunk. They are seriously heavy duty compared to an original DDS.

And yes, they were featured in the New Product section of Hot VWs...

I saw these on KarTeks website under DWT / Douglas wheels in a range of sizes. Are these the same?

I bet they could make custom ones with 12mm countersunk holes if one were to ask. If I get some I'd want to attach via stock lugs like the old gassers  I gotta see these babies!

They look very similar to CMS as well. I once owned 6" wide rear wheels and they had the double step from the face to the lip.

The biggest difference I see is that the radius are smaller and tighter than any other spun wheel out there, including CMS/Erco, and of course, the Mitchell/Douglas wheels. B&R's new wheel is the closest copy yet to a real Deano wheel.

Deano, since you have these newer and better wheels, you'll be willing to give away your old worn out DDS wheels to me, correct?   Grin

Those look nice.  Are they three piece like the originals?

Mike, you're too late. He's already done his bit for the environment and sent them away to be recycled into Coke cans. Diet Coke, naturally – it's lighter.

Nice, they do look a lot like DDS. wheels. If I remember correctly from my old set of 13's & 15's (although it was a long time ago) the hole for the tube valve was different to these as well - I remember you telling me about it when you looked over mine at a Dubfreeze many years ago Keith (it was Bugfreeze back then!), can you refresh my memory? IIRC they perpendicular to the section of rim they came out of, or something similar? These look like the hole is at a 45 angle.

Nice wheels though. Wonder if they plan to make some bigger rim sections as I could do with some 8's for the street.... it would be cool if they made some 13's too!

I've been checking out the Pierside Parts website for wheels...I think they will ship outside the USA.  As you noted, most other USA vendors either make you buy a Bongo membership, or won't ship at all.

Pierside has ERCO's, and others: http://www.piersideparts.net/ER5190356.html
