    After reading the forum all these years and hearing about all these miles guys put on their cars (especially in Europe) driving to events and such, I was curious to hear what kind of gas mileage you guys get.  So, what kind of mileage do you guys get with your IDAs?  Obviously most, if not all, Cal-Look cars will be off (and probably high) due to the shorter than stock front tires.  But for comparison two guys with 145r fronts could share numbers etc. 

Probably going to get the whole "these are hot rods, who cares?" thing but that's OK I bet someone out there is super into it and have over inflated their tires, double checked toe, windows up or down and backed off their brake shoes for less drag.

  Roughly estimating at times I'd see around 18 to 22 MPG with the 2386 that was in it.

While running my stock 1300 on an long ratio gearbox, I did 36mpg on the way to the SCC. 1700km of freeway,and back. Grin
Now with a 1600, vz14 and dual Kadron I should be between 20 and 25mpg. But I could improve this by using a SVDA dizzy and fine tune it, but well, it works.

how do you guess figure that out? i burned about 65-70 liters on the 700km back and forth trip to EBI...
but the engine hasn't been jetted completely yet.

Those figures sound very familiar (similar to me when cruising at 65-70 with a 1.04 4 speed)  - 2276 / 48's   

  ..as for hooning around town... definitely single figures  Grin

When it's empty I put in more. Same thing I did with my motorhomes, boats and various guy toys. You either step up
or step back and join the milage wienies over on the Samba.

At this rate we'll be discussing "clean" tailpipe emissions ?  Or perhaps a more gentle eco footprint ?  With the infinite
number of variables available to the Cal Look enthusiast the point is moot.

Just enjoy your car before the Greenies turn it into a backyard playhouse for the kids  Cheesy

I never asked what people do to get MORE mpg,  just what they get with their setup currently.

Some of us must meet emissions numbers by law.  It's just another challenge when IDAs are involved, but it can be done.

I got around 22-23 around town, and 27-28 on the highway with my worn old stock motor, Zenith, 010, header & glasspack. I'm hoping the new "bullet" will do 30+.

If I don't drive it hard - shifting at 3500 rpm in the city 26 miles per gallon. When criusing on the highway engine turning 3700 rpm - the same 26 miles per gallon.

If I drive it hard - shifting at 6000 to 7000 rpm in the city maybe 10 miles per gallon.  I've never cruised on the highway at 5000 rpm or more for long enough to know the mileage, so I don't know the mileage for that condition.

Engine is 82 X 90.5 (2110), Porsche length rods, K10 cam, IDA's, 42 X 37.5 Berg ported heads, 1 5/8 merged header, 8:1 compression etc.

Trans is stock gear ratios including fourth gear.

I live in Florida and it's very flat here - not many hills except when going up a a bridge incline or highway overpass.

Driving to Big Sur last year with my 94 x 78, 48IDA's 40mm chokes, 306* cam, I got 24.7 mpg (I didn't use odometer, but MS MapPoint)

Going to Nicks and back from Simi I get about the same.

This isn't a moot point at all. Quite contrary, actually. For such fast vehicles, a properly built performance engine gets good mileage in these Cal Look cars. Efficient little engines, to say the least.

Some respectable numbers here. I agree with Fred. If these engines are jetted and tuned properly, they run efficiently. I don't know exact numbers for my engine, but I don't fill up very often and travel a good distance on a tank of gas. I almost never fill my tank all the way because it has a tendency to slosh and I don't have a gas gauge in my oval, so it's difficult to calculate exactly how much gas is in there.

Don't forget that there's a difference between UK mpg and US mpg. I just run a 1600 with 40 Dells on the street but can get between 20 and 35 depending how I drive it!
