I just grave my "burners" out from the garage, just to find out that the semi-gloss paint turn wrinkel,  wheels was restored late 2005, any other got trouble with paint job on burners.. damm.

MAGNESIUM !   Great lightweight metal .....but a real SOB to maintain !   I've studied up on this subject since I bought my burners about 6 years ago (and 3 different restroations of the same wheels !  )  What happens is the metal "gasses off" over time when the climate changes too much (eg: you leave them in the garage), and then wheel will start to blister - crinkle - flake or peel.   The wheels need to be COMPLETELY coated with a good primer and paint over the ENTIRE surface area including the inner barrel.   Otherwise with the change in temperature, the uncoated areas will strat to pull the gasses through the easiest exit points - the face of the wheel.  My best advise is the try to keep them in a stable environment if possible - I know easier said than done.   I hope this helps.

Always good to know that Im not the only one, I will have to be more carefull next time they go to the garage for the winter.., they will go on the car next week wrinkle or not..!!!

When I got mine 6-7 years ago I decided NOT to take them back to bare, since I thought Porsche knew what they were doing when they applied "green" primer thats in the bottom. I gave mine a rattlecan paint job... and they was stored outside the first winter, and since then in a non heated garage.... an Norway cant be said to have a stabel temperature...!!   and still no wrinkle finnish....  Tough love works?!!

I have not had a problem with the paint on any of my Mahle's, and I have completely painted each set I've run .  I do know that both sets were painted with single stage acrylic enamel.  My crew cab sits outside everyday, albeit not in the snow.  Go figure.  I can ask the painter if anyone is interested in how they were sprayed.

i have magnesium wheels in one of my motorbikes and the best thing to do with magnesium wheels is powder coat them so there can get no air to the magnesium but i know this is hard to do when you like them detailed
