this is only my opinion and thats not worth much Grin  But you really want the exhaust to step up in size from the turbo not down,at least keep it the same size,I realise its proberly to late for now but something to think about in the future,the standard of work is really good though Smiley

Started on the pockets for the sump heater



24v glow plug



step drilled to fit the glow plug and tapped M10x1.0





i will weld these into the dry sump

This is our solution, a bit low tech but it works:

On a more serious note, E85 starts to boil at 82-84C and it is always nice to have as pure oil as possible.

Why are you using glow plugs to heat the sump?arent they designed to only be on for very short periods of time? I would have thought a sump heater would be the easier way to do it?
My heater is on for about an hour to get the oil hot enough and boil the fuel out of it,will the glow plugs be ok for that long? and what temp do they reach? I am not knocking your idea at all,just wondering if there is another way to do things that I didnt know about,everyday is a school day right Cheesy

Hi it was an idea I had im using 24v plugs so they wont be at full duty,I made a soldering iron once out of a 24v plug and it worked well, I think they will last ok as they won't be in free air and the oil and pocket will act as a heat sink so they shouldn't get hot enough to burn out (I think) but only time will tell if it works and to what temp it will get to

i thought i would test my sump heater idea out small scale so i fitted a glow plug into a pepper pot  Cheesy

start temp in degC and 50cc of oil





and five minutes later  



Video



so i think that work may work and 170 deg is a bit over the top lol

Richie, I'm curious about this! Is it to get the oil up to temperature without having to start the car and get heat into the heads, or to boil methanol out of the oil like Mike Lawless does? I thought the old car was on E85 and presumed the new one would be too. I didn't think there would be oil contamination issues like with methanol. Also, would you fit it into a regular deep sump or is the new car dry sumped like Andy is doing? I've not seen the new car in the flesh so I'm intrigued by it. Mine won't be anywhere near as wild but it's nice to see the reasoning behind these little things!
