Sump heater was one of the things I thought about when I used to race years ago, but never got around to trying... Cheesy The car always seemed to go better when the oil was warm but the heads were cool!

Cant tell from the pic,but does the oil actually boil? it does with my heater

Richie, I'm curious about this! Is it to get the oil up to temperature without having to start the car and get heat into the heads, or to boil methanol out of the oil like Mike Lawless does? I thought the old car was on E85 and presumed the new one would be too. I didn't think there would be oil contamination issues like with methanol. Also, would you fit it into a regular deep sump or is the new car dry sumped like Andy is doing? I've not seen the new car in the flesh so I'm intrigued by it. Mine won't be anywhere near as wild but it's nice to see the reasoning behind these little things!

Yep dry sump,but I will fit one to the regular wet sump on ther old car,both cars on methanol now,I use the heater to boil out the water & fuel from the oil overnight or in the morning,then I regularly switch it on to pre heat the oil before a run.I still used to see contamination with E85,just not as quickly
Mikes car is wet sump still as well

paint arrived a Bruce's today Smiley



i had an idea to increase the surface area of the oil heater pockets so made 4 today







i haven't test them yet i will do that tmw

my chute equipment arrived today



looks good apart from the release handle that looks like a fork handle so i will make a nicer looking one

The Hobbit was getting busy on the last few cage bits

so trail fitted the release handle dosent look too bad Smiley



i did a bit of testing on the heater pockets to see if the heat was less concentrated at the tip and seams to work ok took about 30 mins to warm 1L of oil to 90 deg C







bruce is cracking on with the body work as well



firewall is nearly done too







some of the last bits have arrived

turbosmart fuel reg



and on the safety side a battery isolator i was going to fit the standard type but didnt like the look of it sticking out of the car so went for this



its controled via an external/internal push button so power can be turned off instantly and is MSA approved

And parts are getting some treatment by Bruce at WRP







So I will take the engine out later this week and take to air cooled performance and fit the quaife into the G50 while the paint is going on

Andy,

can you tell me why they did the harness bar with a big arc in it,then had to make the seat supports long to reach,is there something I am failing to see that you needed the bar bent that way?it just looks like a straight bar would have saved some time and effort,and also weight?

The IRS arms interest me,is that hub alluminium? its hard to tell in that picture,how long are you making the arms?

Hi that bar was going to be the main hoop but on one of the bends the molly cracked as we bent it a bit too tight so we used it as the seat bar I did think the seat would end up a bit further back as well , I couldn't put a straight bar in anyway as I wouldn't fit in the seat if I did, I can't get in dannyboys car as his seat bar is straight  that's the trouble being 6'4" lol the a arms will work out standard length and the bearing hubs are aluminium

Hi I have got some narrowed IRS arms but the car seams to sit too high with no camber, my thinking is if I make arms with 0 camber I can set the height of the front and rear without worrying about camber change as who knows how many tweaks I've got to do on the chassis to get the car right hope that make sense tell me if I'm being stupid ? Plus I like making things lol

Hi It's no as close as it looks my feet went on the pedals and my arse wasn't right back in the seat when we fitted the seat my knees would worse case go under the bar
