While I was assembling the wing yesterday I wanted to come up with an way of clipping the wing on so it held its self in place while I did up the fasteners.

So I've come up with this so far and it holds well

Made some cups

Pressed in a counter sink

Holds in place

not sure on the street car bit I would have said no when it was going to have a vertigate but with the new trans I may put an MOT on it lol

so looks like the chassis is ok Smiley just need to make some sorter adjustable tie rods as I didn't have enough adjustment to get rid of the camber at the rear so all in all not a bad outcome so far

in the mean time started on my girls splitty chassis lol

Yeah MOT it Wink a vertigate on the street would be fine, ask cog box pete, that's what his was running in his street legal (ahem) fiat 600. Although I wouldn't fancy M1 traffic with a Vertigate Smiley

been very busy at work  Grin I guess I have to pay for this car somehow

cars back Smiley

very happy that its straight

im changing the steering rack as I discovered that after all my efforts school boy error it worked backwards I have no idea how I managed it without noticing

changing to a smart car rack looks like it will fit fine and had the same size M14x1.5 as the Porsche

cheers andy

Started on the new steering rack not as easy as I first thought to fit but at least it works in the correct direction lol

The track rod end is different on a smart car the ball joint part bolts to the hub I have I may try to move the rack to the bulk head so I can get the Ackerman angle. I think I should be able to swap the hubs around to have the steering to the rear and use a golf MK4 column

The ackerman angle is already built in to your spindles, the "arms" on them are pointing outwards, that means they need the rack in front to work. I wouldn't mess with another rack, just get a porsche rack from a left hand drive and mount it upside down.

This car is more narrow and has a shorter wheelbase as the Porsche where the spindles came from. This means your ackermann is gone. I wouldn't flip the left and right spindle, this means your arm is pointing the wrong direction. Ask me how I know Embarrassed

I had the same problem with my steering. Now I use an English steering rack on a European car and it works just fine.

so its going to make not much difference where it goes the rack from the smart car works the correct way round for the hubs. slightly modified a Golf MK4 column today and Im happy with how it turned out

removed all the adjustment and moved the mounting bracket to the same position of a bug

the mounting holes even line up

bit more fettling and looks like its going to work a treat

fitted the springs at last been hectic at work

 Up

Down

Who would have guessed a porsche boxster track rod end will fit on a smart car rack

I need to make a adjustable rear tie rod to adjust the toe out as the rear suspension is a a lot lower than a standard 997 these are just mock up to get the geometry correct
