^^^^^You got that right!! When people get in my daily driver VW Golf and see a 5 speed pattern shifter they always say - Oh.....you know how to drive with one of these things?  Cheesy I remember when it was cool to know how to use a clutch and shift.... WTF? Well I already taught my 15 year old son how to drive a car with a manual transmission and I'm going to give him the Golf in a year or so......Hope knowing how to drive a car with a manual transmission aint bad for his social life....

I've finished rewiring the Ghia. I found that since I had relocated the battery to the front, I had the power running from the front of the car, to the back, back to front, and then back to the back, and then back to the front..... Those little electrons were being busy little bastards.... Then add in the small wiring sizes that I had used and that were in the stock wiring harness,,, well, lets just say that it wasn't right.... So, I've added some 8 gauge power wires and sorted out everything, so we're good to go (I hope,,, LOL)

Now, on to the oil leaks.... If you remember from previous posts, I was having issues with the flares breaking/cracking on my stainless tubing....

So I started asking around trying to figure a solution for this.... I was recommended to talk to the guys at Bonaco in Ontario CA.... Bonaco Inc. - Brake lines, AN Fittings, Aluminum Fittings, PTFE Hose Ends, Carburetor fuel line kits, fuel gauges and more...   They have the trickiest tubing flare tool,,, so I got one....

I guess what makes it different is that the flare is actually has bumps/ridges on it.

OMG,,,, you should see the flares this thing makes..........

So now I just have to go around and redo all the flared ends and see if I can dry this pig up!!!!!!!!!!!  Trying to talk to my buddy so I can use his shop (with a concrete floor) to do this, as my carpeted floor just doesn't like oil dripped on it.......

Monday, thinking I had the electrical all sorted out, I took the car out on my little 3 mile test loop I use. Left one signal and was rolling onto the throttle, trying to get my gremlins to reappear. Damn, only boosting to 4-5 pounds, double damn, forgot to plug-in the boost controller and was only running on the waste gate spring..... Turned onto a side street so I could connect it back together... As I climbed out, this new GT Mustang pulls up next to me and rolls down his window... "I usually don't stop and congratulate someone for beating me, but that little thing is fast ! Whatcha got in it??"

"Just a stocker with a little boost," I replied, "If I'd known we were racing, I would of really got after it!!!!" Hope I don't go to hell for all the little lies I tell, LMAO.

He drove away shaking his head..... Don't mess with the Air Cooled!!!!! LOL

Did you actually buy the tool from them? Does it have a brand/part #?

I think it's the Parker 37° flaring tool.  https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008HQ5F1S?pc_redir=T1
I've seen them cheaper than amazon though.

That link is for a 45° tool(don't buy if building JIC/AN based fittings), also mentions soft metal tubing. Does  stainless count as soft metal? Your info is helpful though, lots of other options on the site. Thank you!

That looks very similar to what I've got -- -- and yes they are for soft metals, but the head is just pinned in placed and is easily replaced, I have a spare.... and the heads I have are 37*

As life goes -- so do our toys --

The Ghia is for sale for $16,500 --

I believe this is a really fair price knowing how much in receipts I've shredded....

all offers are welcome, but please don't embarrass yourself.

But I now have a solution to this tuner shit----

Oh lets say I've gone little stupid since the last post -- -- a complete tear down, inspection/R&R of the bearings, Corilla rods,  J&E pistons, new gapless rings, heads completely redone (new porting, valves, springs, heat resistance coating on the inside, heat dispersement coating on the outside, blah blah blah), new 1.4 Pauter rockers, a couple of weeks in Italy for vacation and got all the parts and pieces back from the machine shops,,, and wah-la back together as a birthday present to me.... """Oh yes dear, it shouldn't cost more than a $100 to redo the engine,,,,, cough,,, cough ,,, choke, cough....."""

I've had the car tuned by three different "professional" people -- all three have just about burned the car down on the dyno's (just doing pull after pull after pull) and even running E85 being static on the rollers, it just gets hot when hitting the boost levels I had dialed in) -- So, I've got two complete EFI setups and I'm done with them -- there's a nice drag class that I can run where you can be boosted but no electronics and I've got my sights on that -----

Know any body that wants a AEM EMS4 or Electromotive TechGT system?Huh? I've just received both back from their factories after a quick check up..... both have everything from the crank trigger to the coils and everything in between.........

Engine is almost ready -- Just need to finish the MSD install -- I still hate crawling around the freaking cage to get to the back of the firewall LOL

I'm so over using steel braided line -- and E85 just eats them up -- I'm having to replace it almost every other year -- So now I'm using hard line when I have new installs or replacing old lines, I'm using either SS or Aluminum... AL is softer and easier to form and more forgiving than SS.....

Do you use teflon lined hose or rubber?  I buy from anfittingsdirect.com.  They work really well, any fuel compatible.  I will never touch aluminum hard line again, I had so many issues with trying to get them to seal, took so much tightening that they only lasted a couple times of being taken apart and then they were garbage. I went stainless hard lines this year, not fun to bend, but they flare so much nicer, and seal so much easier. I will only go with stainless hard and teflon lined stainless soft line from here on out.  Tired of re-doing mine too.

Okey, didn't find a IC on you latest version of your engine, so asumed you never run a IC. Wink
Do I can't understand the logic of going from efi to carb and now without an IC, sound like a major step back?
If you are tired of bugs with efi systems I understand going oldschool but if you say your engine ran hot before and you now have taken away you IC it sound like you are getting a hot problem..

First - -- When your running a draw thru system you can't run an IC --

Second -- -- when using E85, it acts as an chemical IC. So again no IC necessary...

The temps that are high are in the angle ports heads, which are great for the track, but have always been notorious for running hot on the street... so I'm trying a few new things so that I can get the temps down for cruising on the highway or playing at the autocross...

The Franklin Dauphine is pretty cool, heavily influenced by Lee Maynard from Outlaw Flat Four, who built his a couple of years earlier. There are a couple of cars I'd like to do something similar to - big VW motor in the back, tube chassis built into the monocoque, just to make people think WTF!
