Me too. I can help...which language do you prefer apart from English?
Try to understand why and then ask why a couple of times to same answer before you decide what to do different in order for it to happen again.

Stress, Flex, over torqued, abused, my stupidity -- choose one or all LOL --
but I think it comes down to when I didn't have the shims installed correctly on the shaft for this high of a lift and the rockers were just barely hitting the stands back when I had this engine in the oval

Also double check that helicoil is in straight.
If it is NOT, then when the nut is tightened it will stress the stud.
Those studs can handle a lot of load and spring pressure.
never broken one even with 500lbs spring, 1.5's and .720lift.

Well, you can see there hasn't been to much done to the car since May -- I've been Constructing a Solar Plant in beautiful downtown Lockhart, CA..... Never heard of it?
? Here it is --
https://maps.google.com/maps?daddr=Lockhart,+CA+92347&hl=en&sll=35.014884,-117.330894&sspn=0.031352,0.061455&geocode=CRRCDm9yVVpGFStIFgIdPKwB-SnNHuqVu43DgDGLPI2fJosYrQ&t=h&mra=ls&z=14
--- It was a old Ghost town that it is now a solar plant ---- You can see an existing solar plant north of there that has been there for almost 20 years -- all the area that you can see the crop circles is the new solar plant.... Maybe one day it will show up here..... Still don't know where it is?
? Start backing out of the picture and you will figure it out, LOL -- can you say middle of nowhere?!?!?!?
Well anyway, Friday was my last day on the job, after being there for almost a year and doing a 200+++ mile commute everyday I'm really done with this work shit LOL. so it is mini vacation time, gonna really dig into the ghia and get the jinx's out of it -- got some gremlins in the engine and EFI that defy logic, so I'm gonna get after them or start using a hammer on this shit LOL.... I've got a month or so before the next job so lets see what I can get done.

Harold,
Glad to see you're going to do some more work on the Ghia during the next 30 days. Be sure to report all of your misadventures. I've missed the comedic relief. (You're one of my favorite comedy writers.)

Love this post, even if it is not Cal look. Zoomed in and out, always impressed by the details, even if not always updated. I use to know some people in Barstow and the road to Las Vegas. Fun to see.

I'm hoping I'm finally going to see the light at the end of the tunnel with this thing -- need to start doing some stuff to the car like putting in the windows and getting it into more of a driver, but .. ...
Well, I've broken 3 rocker studs now, so...... engine has been pulled apart and the head that been breaking the stud has been disassembled and can't find nothing wrong HMMMMMMMMM removed the helicoils and installed a timesert-- -- K800's still within spec, maybe some beehives are in order?!?! -- valves and guides are OK and doing what they are suppose to do -- WHY THE HELL IS THIS HAPPENING? flustrated beyond belief, but still investigating -- going to split the cases next to do a look see
One cylinder did have a broken ring which scored the cylinder -- so new +.030 pistons and total seal rings will be required to fix that --
Good news: it will now be a 2960, Buhahahahahahah --
bad news: it hurts when I laugh

Hey Harold,
the best thing I did in a long time was to put carbs on my engine and drive it...
after a lot of frustrations, i opted to keep it simple.. now I can enjoy my car better then when i had the turbo strapped onto it...

I guess I need to put this under the "just my luck" catagory -- -- My ignition/steering lock took a dump, (no pun intended) which I detailed in a previous post... Well, I've been trying to rebuild it into a useable piece. When my buddy Randy broke off the only key I had for the doors in the ignition, bumping over the engine for me, I decided that it was never gonna work........ So looking around I was trying to find something to replace it. I had used Auto Rod Controls in my Austin Pickup 30+ years ago and liked them, so decided to use them again --- --- In looking at their web site, I found that they Had a newer system that was guaranteed for life, the arc-4000r
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/arc-4000r
was my chosen replacement, called Summit and had it shipped out -- could of got it cheaper at Jeg's oops .... I get it, spend a few hours spicing in the wires, running the ribbon cable from the switch panel to the relays, BLAH BLAH BLAH, got it all pretty-ed up, ziped tied up, time to power it up, only half the lights come on, and it won't work -- CHIT -- so it is Friday night at 8pm -- I quadruple check all the instructions and my installation-- still CHIT -- ain't no calling anybody for help now -- -- Spent the week end calling, looking all over the internet, can't find any trouble shooting for these things...... So this morning (Monday) I call ARC and talk to Jason and this guys listens very nicely to me rant then we trouble shoot all the possiblities... one by one we check off things and then he says, 'Well, disconnect the ribbon cable and reverse it.' Chit -- I'm looking at the 500 zip ties I used and all the tucking I did to make it pretty, I say 'Jason, let me call you back in an hour while I do this' -- I pull -- nicely -- and cut and get the cable out and reverse it -- BANG -- works perfectly -- seems they use the same cable for the 4,8 and 12 switch systems, so there are a ton of spare lines on the 4 switch system -- I call him back -- he says, 'You got lucky and got a bad one' -- Gee thanks -- My luck strikes again -- Man, this thing is pretty, now just waiting for the new cable to come in so I can finish it -- I have a feeling it won't be so pretty this time LOL
Just finished opening all of my care packages from Pauter, Aircooled, and autocraft -- got to take all the goodies to the engine builder tomorrow -- get to pick up the barrels and pistons Wednesday
Here is a picture of some of the stuff from Pauter -- new cam and new one piece shaft rockers

All the engine parts are done and they are all at my engine builders -- he told me to stay the F away with my bad Ju-Ju until he is done putting it together LMAO
WELLLLLLL, Finally opened a box that the PO had given me, assuring me that everything that was needed to put the doors back together (they were stripped for weight saving) and install the door and quarter glass -- -- opened it and there wasn't but a quarter of the stuff needed -- -- CHIT -- -- my bad, didn't check it earlier -- -- So I started hitting the Web looking for "THE STUFF" that was needed -- most of which can be listed as HTF (hard to find) or UNOBTAINABLE, luckily most of this stuff is the same on Ghias from '60 to '71 ----- So when in doubt, look on Craigslist LOL -- -- Lo and Behold, I find a '64 parts car about 30 miles from the house, The bad news -- the owner thinks it is a good candidate for restoration price wise LMAO -- went over there tonight and looked at it in the dark, what a POS, but it had all the inner door and window parts I needed, plus I think the glass is in better condition that the chit I got from the PO -- Oh Well, I can't believe what I did, I bought it --
I'll take some pictures of it tomorrow when I go to pick it up -- -- everybody is gonna laugh their butts off what desperation will cause someone to do -- --
I will need to sell the later model swing axle 4 lug with disc brakes --- some nice 8 spokes bolted to it --- the front beam is an original wide five unit --- it has original seats and steering wheel and some more few odds and ends -- let me know if you see anything you need -- prices will reflect the need for me to regain some of my manhood after buying this POS LMAO

See those 3 letters on the left? That says it all.
Engine Power blank. They can't handle high spring pressures. Make sure next one is a SC1 or steel billet.

SOOOOOO, I've had the motor done and in the car for a week -- -- -- I've decided I want a Professional to build the loom and do the tuning on the car,,,,, Money well spent, right?
?
Spent two days trying to track down someone, all the freaking shops aren't accepting any work because the bastards are ALL going to the SEMA show -- I can't catch a break here --
Screw it -- I'm pulling the drivers door off and rear deck lid off and taking them to a painter and have them color matched to the rest of the car, in the mean time I'll try to stick all the internals into the passenger door and get the glass and seals correctly installed......
Pulled the car off the jack stands for the first time all summer and rolled it out into the drive way.... Looked good -- -- cleaned up the work area and put a couple of million tools away -- -- I've gotten to age that if I've got to get my big ass off the ground to get to the tool box to get a tool, I'm keeping that bastard around me for a month or two before I put it back LOL Never know when you might need it again -- --
Why do I always have these really big Hammers in reach?
Why do I keep having to make all these parts runs again and again?

Put some 100LL in it Sunday and pulled up a old ECU file and the POS fired right up --- Damn SKEERY if you ask me -- Let it run/break in, burned all the oil off the headers -- -- stunk up the garage and the house,,,, oooops -- pulled the car out into the driveway and then started cleaning the garage.
Chased a couple of more leaks and found a loose fitting -- got one fuel leak at a fitting, looks like I'll have to get a AN gasket/seal as the surface has a ding in it to go in there to fix that.
Found these time slips from '81-'82
