I just talked to a few people with mobile phones who are at Chimay, and here is what has been happening..... Friday was cold and windy, and light rain fell throughout most of the day. Not much drag racing, only a few burn outs. But Saturday, it was, and is huge! Kobus cut off the drag racing entries at 250, and the car show topped way over 500! Today, there has been a few spells of light rain, but they have been running the drags all day. Keith Seume drove the Race Shop Ghia, Ray Shubert got both the Iguana and the John Preston's Ghia running after some problems. Larry McKenzie drove the Iguana to a low 12.... Russell is the hit of the show, with some of his "herd". Arnie was there (DKP1), as was his original '67! Dyno Don has been doing some announcements on the PA. It would appear that the turnout is huge! A lot of vendors, but not much of a swap meet (kinda muddy in places). There is a large turnout of nice cars from the U.K. So, things are doing really well at Chimay. I just wished I was there, and not here.

Weather on Sunday was great. Sunny and only one small light rain shower. Turnout was huge, and drag racing when on until 3:00. Ron Fleming and Keith Seume raced each other a few times, with Fleming coming out on top. Sounds like Kobus and partners really did a nice job with this event.

What a super weekend……
Respect to the EBI crew (Kobus,Fast Freddie,CSP, Russell and those who I forget) for a superb event..
The most beautiful cal look cars where there and what a lot of race cars.. a lot of nostalgic cars and persons…..great…
Never seen so many quality cars together…. Saw a lot of the cars that I now from magazines and forums….
Racing on Saturday was the best I ever saw and kept on going till 21.30…and a deep bow for dyno don he was killing….
Man what a guy…what an energy…..

Destroyed my engine (1200 standard) getting there…after leaving my home (Rotterdam, Holland) Saturday morning made about 50 kilometers, just before the Belgian border.. my oil warning light lit and the oil pressure gauge went to zero…oh oh…. stopped the car and saw that my valve cover gasket was blown and almost all the oil was gone….replaced the gasket, had a spare with me(still leaks though).. Filled it up with oil, crossed my fingers and kept on going, keeping close eye on my pressure gauge and warning light…
Well I can tell you when the car is idling in front of a traffic light, the warning light comes on and the oil pressure drops below 0.5 bar of pressure…So I think my bearings are shot…….but hell, he made the trip to Chimay and back almost 600 kilometers… (had a little bit of sweaty palms sunday afternoon on the way back I can tell you).

At least now I have a reason to built a new, bigger and hopefully powerful engine….

But not even this can wreck this weekend….what a blast…
I am more or less speechless ……. What a show….

Kind Regards Edgar

MY BEST VW EVENT EVER!  Grin
What can I say? How can I put into words how I feel about racing the Race Shop Ghia? That is probably THE most significant VW gasser left in the world. Imagine being able to drive an original Sox & Martin Pro-Stock, or the first rear-engined Swamp Rat digger... and then adds some more dreams. Deano, I wish above all wishes that you could have been there. Like me and Bug-In 32, some things are destined not to be, I guess. But we raised a glass or three to you.

Thank you Kobus, thank you Russell, thank you Ron – I had such a ball.  Smiley
