Looking for some advice on upgrading my current turbo system to EFI

Current motor is running a blow through setup fed into 45 dells. I see people having really good success with single throttle bodie setups.

So my question what would be the best sulution, replace the dells for twin throttle bodies ? Or have a new custom pipe work made with plenums at either side with a centre mounted throttle bodie. Could I put the fuel rails into the plenum or do they need to go into the manifolds ?

Any thoughts or more questions welcome

Thank you

I've recently talked about few turbo guys about similar decision (dual throttle bodies vs. dual plenums with single throttle body) and single throttle body won hands down. I don't yet have any personal experience with turboed edi's but should have next summer, hopefully I'm on the right track with the following arguments Smiley Here's few reasons I've been told against dual throttle bodies:

- Controlling it with MAP is going to be difficult (plumbing MAP from 4-to-1 piping from each intake pipe, then again slower response for quick changes that has to be compensated with TPS)
- With mainly TPS based control, you'll need to compensate the boost somehow
- Need for linkage
- (sync should be easy with TPS's on both sides)
- Plumbing is way harder if you're not going to find readily available solution
- Needs more space, at least more height

Of course there's the brighter side also, for example

- Cool looks!
- Impressive n/a throttle response
- Maybe more top end power?
- Possibility to run injectors straight above the velocity stacks, too bad no-one can see them (...plenums made with windows?)

Dirty'n'cheap alternative:

- Strip your Dell's and plug gas holes
- Install TPS's to both carbs (now throttle bodies)
- Change or modify manifolds with injector seats
- As you have already the plumbing, linkage etc, only problem is going to be accurate enough measuring of the air going into engine

From my friends tale, I've reasoned that with n/a engine, TPS controlled EFI with dual throttle bodies is easier and accurate for very good results. Varying intake pressure makes it more difficult.

Just to confuse you: I`m changing from 1 TB to dual. Why? Because I was inspired by the world fastest VW.

speed shop throttle bodies look nice Wink

have a look on the STF in there forced induction bit, loads of info, dual seems to be better from what i gather, but single TB would be easier & cheaper i guess?

My son Mark's Turbo EFI street car.

Dual CB injection TBs. If you've already got IDFs, these bolt right on.

Looking good Mike, please give us more info:

- Engine size and specs
- At what boost did you two get 360hp? And I guess it is crank hp and not at the wheels?
- Turbo?
- What was the AIT at peak hp?
- Fuel system and IDC?

Thanks,

I read somewhere he sold his car. Moving to Colorado to brew beer, which isn't a bad hobby either!   Grin

Single TB from accufab (Ford 5.0) -- Marty's intakes and the injector's mounted on the outside (more direct shot) but in a bug you should probably move them to the inside of the intake (narrower engine) -- using E85, minimun injector size, I'd recommend is 100 # -- the injectors can be mounted anywhere that is convenient for you and there are some holders out there that do not require fuel rails (AN fittings for hoses) -- I'm using a smaller turbo for instant boost rather than going for the big HP numbers---

the 'BOX' is the MOST important decision you will make -- recommend using AEM -- seems like 'the' box to use without going to the MOTEC, I have Electromotive and finding support/tuning/teacher is a HUGE pain, since you're over in EU you do have a few more options -- Your choice should be driven by who your going to use as a tuner and what they like to use/recommend and if they will spend the time to teach you the system

I think if it was mine I would be using a single throttle body and a Mass Air Flow system . Mike McCarthy
