Bob Davis just sent me some pics I thought I should pass along.  Note Bill Schwimmers Sqbk.  Bob thought the blue oval was mine, it's close but I never ran buggy bars always t-bars.  Looks almost identical tho.  Must be Kevin Brennan's.

WOW, Worm... those pics are GREAT!!! The blue Oval was Kevin Brennan's called So Blue. And the late Squareback was Dave McNew's. That's the car he was driving when I met him in '79.

One of those two guys looks like Steve Wilkerson. I don't remember the other guy. Brain fart.

Mark, it looks like Wilkerson holding the handle of the wheelbarrow, and it's definately one of the Dale brothers.  There was Steve Dale and Greg Dale.  From what I remember the two of them started a little car rental biz called Ugly Duckling Rent a car.  Remember that?  They just flat out killed it for awhile.  Both brothers had fantastic cars too.  Fabs, I am CERTAIN you must have put yourself in a wheelbarrow at least ONE time.  I miss your tongue pics.  There should be an entire thread of Fabs and his tongue.

And the blue car is certainly Kevin Brennans.  Mine was not THAT nice.  That car won Best of Show at I think Bug In 27?  Correct?  Kevin had the 48IDA's and I ran the Solex 40P11's with the velocity stacks.  Not as cool.

Yep, I remember Ugly Duckling Rent-A-Car... do you recall that McNew and a few of us in the club ran those stickers on the back windows of our Bugs? People would trip out on that. I got tons of questions and comments on the road, at shows, cruising Whittier, Blvd. and just about everywhere else. Wish I had one of those old stickers, now.

Brennan won that award at either Bug-In 25, 26, or 27. I forget which one. It's a blur, these days. If Bob D. remembers the skinny smart-ass with the orange '66, please tell him Mark/Fred says HEY. I'm guessing that you already told him about our '09 Knucklehead Convention... I mean, DEEK reunion. Yes?

 Grin

How's your son's car doing? Hey... I've been meaning to ask you; have you posted any shots of your Oval? I think you've posted the 'Vert.

Wow, am I high?  I thought FOR CERTAIN Kevin had won best of show.  Maybe it was earlier?  Dunno.  I seriously thought FOR SURE he had won it one year.  When was it?  Mark Ramirez first then Brennan?  Or was Mike Martinez's chop between em?

It was a LONG time ago and can barely remember what I ate for breakfast.  Sorry guys.

Wormie
P.S. did you notice who won Xgas in Bug In 26?  Right at the top of the page.  My old neighbor Cory McClenathan.  For those of you that may follow Top Fuel NHRA drag racing, he is currently one of the top racers in the world and hes at Pomona Winternationals this weekend I believe.  That guy can drive!

WOW... looking through those old results from Bug-In brings back some great memories of some of the peoples' names.

Hey, Worm... I remember Cory very well and still hear his name mentioned with drag racing. Whatever happened to his sister, Colleen? She had an orange '67 sedan with buggy bars (attn: Dave Rosique).

Thanks guys for the effort there.  Oh well.  Im old, I have the classic disease CRS.  You know, Cant Remember Shit.  Brennans car was VERY nice.  I do remember driving an hour to pick up some wierd Russel fittings for him.  It was the day before the Bug In that he was to debut that car.  My throttle cable broke on the 405 freeway on the way to to get the parts.  I drove the entire distance back and forth with the cable out.  I was pretty craftty back then.  And skinny. ha

Thanks again, no worries. Heres a re-hashed pic of Kevins car with a few trophies and such from then. (and McNew)

Yeah, I remember catching that when it was first published. Over the years, I'm very surprised that more people never caught it. It bugged me... English classes (besides Wood Shop) were the only ones that I paid any attention to. The remainder of school bored me. As a result, proper spelling seems to be the only thing I acquired after my twelve year sentence in prison... I mean, school.

 Grin

Anyway... good catch, Lawrence.

Any of you remember being over at Vaughn's a couple days before Bug-in 23 when Mark was putting the finishing touches on his black car. We were all sitting around shooting the shit [probably drinkin a few beers] when Mark forgot about the wrench on his pulley after just adjusting his valves. He fired the car up and launched the wrench >through< his freshly painted decklid. That was something else. It was a major scramble to get it fixed and repainted practically overnight. Man, those were the days.
