Here's a few shots of my old 1970 Bug. Pics are from 1985-88. Note the baby tornado mirrors, original lucas front turn signals, etc.

Check out my car in my signature
Considering how uncool these cars are regarded now, how many of us were hooked by the 80`s cars in the magazines and are following a different `old school` path now?
My red car hooked me as a 15 year old when it was on the december 85 cover of street machine magazine, no way will it ever look anything other than it did then, despite how out of fashon it gets...

There are still pictures of you in those `rad` shorts from early bug jams keith, do you really want to talk fashion?
Has the new toy arrived yet btw??

Call it a phase I went through.
It was something different that I thought looked cool. It made the V8 guys really wonder what I was running!
Here's a couple of more shots with the bumpers on. I had switched back to the traditional cal-look set-up with the dual merged quiet pack mufflers and remounted a single filter off the traction bar. By the way, those are 205/60/15 radials stuffed under the rear fenders with original Michelin 135's up front.

80's callook was my thing back then as i stared round that time with the vw beetle, think was 1984/85.
First car was a 1969 beetle with centre lines and a mouse engine.69 c/w crank and 88 cima piston,se heads and 48 IDA's
Dave Folts gearbox(4:12 with diff, stock gears).
Will try to post pictures if i know how.
Currently building a 80's look callooker to be a bit different from the rest who are completely into the 70's old skool look.

I am not a big fan of 80s Looker either, but I have to admit that there were some really nice and tastefull cars. The blue car belongs to Ingo Neuhaus. He build it in the early 90s with a lot of billet parts, a 1641 cc engine, 40 IDFs and fully polished 5,5x15 Fuchs wheels. It was featured in the german VW Scene magazine and in Hot VWs around '91 or '92.
He still owens the car today, still in amazing condition (proving the quality of work over 15 years ago) but with T-Bars, a little raised rear and a bigger engine (IIRC). We told him to leave the car the way it was back then because it's a a very tastefull witness of that time period.

Here is another one from Switzerland (picture taken three weeks ago). That car must be an original 80s Looker, I spotted pictures of that oval at the Chateau d'Oex show in 1997. Nice car with the typical color coded Empi 5s. Maybe some of the swiss guys can tell us more about it.

I like it. But it's more subtle than most of the 80's cars, which were graphic overkill! T-bars, raised rear and bigger engine brings the car right up to date, which is the mark of a good car in my opinion. A good car should either be timeless or very easy to update/backdate!
