Hi everyone.
I?ve ben here for a long time now, and this is my first post...
I?m planning to rebuilt my 2276cc, and I?m looking for an ignition to replace my old MSD 6AL and distributor combo.
I?m sure I can find something better to help my engine to unleash his power. I spent time to read topics, catalogs, etc... but now I just don?t know what to do. I must say I don?t know much about crank trigger systems as I didn?t saw one working.
Questions are, can I find sometthing tuneable as CB Black Box or Magnaspark and powerfull enough. I saw systems with multi coils but can?t find multi coils in MSD catalog.
Engine is 82X94, 5.325 rods, ultra wedge ports heads, CB 2300 camshaft, IDA?s
Thanks for your help.

And what is wrong with your MSD,why would you want to change it?

That?s a good question !
I guess, and it?s just a guess, that I could have a better ignition tuning with a trigger. A better ignition curve.

I just changed from distributor to trigger ignition during last winter. I used a Finnish product Autotune.fi box. It's capable for injection too but I wanted to do ignition first.

I'm running a small 1955 stroker with kind of a wildish cam scat C55 and I think that moving to EI was right move. It's more driveable now, using also map signal from intakes.

Sounds better running. And I think the distributor (bosch 010) didn't keep up perfectly at the higher revs and this hasn't missed a beat. This could also be cause of a distributor not being in perfect condition and not the fault of distributors generally.

It's quite some wiring and tinkering but if you're up for it, why not?

Yes, why not.
Is a trigger system like CB Magnaspark as powerful as a MSD 6AL ? Is it a good choice for a race/street engine?
What kind of ignition is used today in 11/12 sec street/race engines?

I didn?t have much luck with the MSD 6 Digital.  I swapped it for a 6AL2.  Plenty of 11 second passes (at altitude) with the old engine, new engine went 11.3 @ high altitude, and 6.8 in the 1/8 close to sea level.  I think it?s good enough for deep into the tens.

I?ve run out of induction (51.5s w/48vents) which forces the switch to injection, so the ignition gets an upgrade along with it.

How does your engine run now?  I have a 94x82, progas heads, big cam.  This engine is going to see service in my street Notchback.  New ultra wedgeports, CB2300, 51s, old close ratio box out of my split.

The engine didn?t run since a long time now. Best time was in 12s in stock weight car. Engine needs few improvements.
I?m looking for something better than the springs to tune the ignition curve, but maybe springs are good enough to go in the 11s and keep the car on the street too.
