What's there to worry about? Owning/driving a hot VW.....

Own a hot rod Volkswagen? Drive it on a regular or semi regular basis? What worries you about driving it?

Maybe it is just me, but most of the time, when driving, I don't worry much. I do more of that @ 3am laying in bed at night. It is as if bad luck is at work in all the dark crevices and nooks of my car...and I wake up and trip on "I wonder if....." Which may result in the following Saturday morning being spent reassuring myself that all is good. I guess my main worry........hoping the cam and lifters are happily living happily ever after, appreciating all the care and devotion I have given them, and rewarding me with pit-free, long life.

Aside from that, driving around on the weekdays here in san Fernando Valley to work and back, I worry a bit about some of the brainless other drivers out here. I think getting bashed in a little '67 Bug by a Hummer or Cayenne would kind of hurt.

My worries is getting off the I-5 freeway and having no oil pressure and have it start knocking. I did not build the short block of my current engine. It really panics me after hauling ass for 40-50 minutes at 80-85 mph and then suddenly pulling off the freeway. I lost an engine like this in my high school daze.

I agree about the traffic.  That's my main concern.  There's tons of people out there just not paying attention.  If it is dry out, I might drive my car to work (been doing that regularly this fall).  Because of having specialty insurance, if they find out I was commuting in my Bug, I'm up the stinky creek.

But I love driving it soo much.

I have already been hit once with the '67 by some chick who was not paying attention. Fortunately the damage was mostly cosmetic. Driving to work in the mornings gets a little hairy, especially with all the huge SUVs. Guy I knew one time got t-boned in his oval by a Ford 1/2 ton pickup. Pretty much caved in the whole side of the car. He spent more than a few days in the hospital and ended up with some broken ribs, an arm and his leg. I have seriously considered putting a roll bar in just because of that wreck.

Big pump gas h.p. with an irs zf, if you dip into the pedal a little too much there's no guarantee you are going to end up facing the way you wanted to- fun at slow speeds, but above 35 it gets hairy.

I would like to note that anybody who has seen my car knows taht there isn't much to worry about as far as dents, dings, scratches, rock chips, bird poo, etc., etc......

I worry about stupid people crashing into me because they are too busy talking on the phone, eating, scanning their ipod, etc. WATCH THE F-IN ROAD!!! People do these things because they are not driving a fun car. We on the other hand are like minded, lucky people who drive for the sheer pleasure. Scenery, sounds, adventure etc

I agree. I try and avoid driving in the rain. With a big motor, and a grabby clutch, my car is twitchy on wet roads.
