...to paint my car. It is cool with patina that shows that the car has been used, but in the long run you get tired of it.

I have owned it for three years and I have always thought that I would leave the chrome.
Lately I have been having wet dreams of it shaved with just plain cal-look rubber and one piece windows.

I think I will let you guys decide my future look.
Go ahed and vote!

Pictures are of it when I picked it up and how it looks now.

Well... It's an early model, It cold look well in more oldschool form. It depends what kind of final effect you want to have. I own a late model, so I don't have much choice - I have to style it in the manner of late 70ties... You can still choose what decade should your bug look like.

It will have some modern items as it is form follows function and I race it. It will still have the 3" A1 muffler, Hi back seat (at least at the drivers side like now) and a RLR renn kafer roll bar.

SHAVE! when you've got the opportunity to do so, you should close those holes! in the end, if you're not satisfied (but you will be) you can still glue the chrome back on.  Wink

I really love the patina on your car Anders, it can never be recreated. Untouched cars in good original condition are getting harder to find..But if you really want to paint it, then shave it  Smiley

BTW: A couple of weeks ago I found a correct front hood for my oval, and I actually welded up the trim holes in it today at work  Wink

Do fish swim? Talk about asking a leading question Grin Roman, why ask when you knew the answer?.........as long as it hauls ass and has the right stance.....it need to get rid of the trim and get paint job.....so go for it!!!  Grin

With the wide trim of an earlier car I vote shave it... if it was the thinner trim like on a '67 I might vote leave it.

if you gonna shave it -- are you also gonna take off the chrome stoneguard (typical scandinavian style) -- with or without chrome -- you got yourself a fingerlickin toy!

...if you´ll have to work on the body anyway, I´d shave it (although my own car still wears chrome).
But please do not use the other option mentioned in the 1975 Hot Vws "How to Cal-look your VW overview": Tinted glass in the rear 3/4 Tongue

Oh yes the old Bubble Windows!

Actually, the only reason why they tinted the windows was so the cops couldn't see the joint being passed around!

Ah, the crazy stinger guy  Wink The windows are actually cool ass f...!! I would love to have a set of these! Hope you can forgive me for posting this picture dude. It's a bit hard to see in this shot, but they don't curve that much really. If anyone out there has a set of these, and are ashamed to admit to it, then let me know.. Grin
