Runs with Scissors

« on: January 02, 2008, 03:51:31 am »

I just picked up my copy of Demon Bugs (great book btw!) and found this car in it. I don't think I have seen this one before. Has it been in any magazines? What a kick ass car. Subtle, clean, great stance and a really nicely done engine. 210 hp from a fk-8 with CB CNC heads is pretty impressive. Wish there were a few more pics of this car.

Darrell's car is really a nice piece and one of my personal favorites.

I don't think it's been featured in any mags but I could be wrong.

Darrell is a personal friend of mine and I have ridden in his car.  It kicks butt!  Very quick and it made 180Hp at the rear wheels with mostly swap meet parts.  Darrell did almost all of the work himself.  He is a perfectionist and a very cool guy!

Darrell's car was pictured in Hot Rod Magazine's feature on Fast Volkswagens.

Nice guy too.

It's one of those cars you get to really appreciate when you see it. A lot of cars look great in magazines but this one is one of those that is genuinely good, very nicely done.

 Cool

Yeah, I really like the engine compartment on this car. Clean and not over done. IMHO too many cars focus on the show and not the go where the engine compartment is concerned. Form follows function etc etc.

I really like the car too. It looks very subtle and modest - just like the owners character!  Wink Darrell gave me a ride in his car two years ago from Westminster to Irwindale where he raced his 66. Darrell is definitely one of the nicest guys I ever met!

Christophe made an excellent point. One reason this motor looks clean because there is no ugly breather hoses hanging about the engine compartment. Did many guys run breather systems back in the 70's? Are they absolutly necessary? I like the black engine case as well. It ties everything together.

Lovely looking car and the proof that a great callooker doesn't always has to be a 67 model.

You can’t see it on any of the pictures posted here, but this car has a strange speedometer, with additional daily trip counter. I cannot find a pic of it at the moment, but It was in one of the articles about the car. Anyone knows what it is?

Hi Louis! Glad you like the picture. Sorry, can't supply you with a larger size...
I've had problems in the past, i.e., sending pics to certain parties as a courtesy, and finding that they used the said pictures on the net or - worse - in magazines. Hope you will understand.
