I have been contacted by Autobooks, the largest automotive-related book store in Southern California, to do a Book Signing, following the recent release of Demon Bugs. (In case you haven’t read the thread, see http://cal-look.no/lounge/index.php/topic,2933.0.html). Of course, I would like to invite as many of you guys as possible!

A few words about Autobooks… They have been located in Burbank since 1951. It’s some kind of paradise for us gearheads, with all sorts of books, magazines (from the U.S. and foreign), DVDs, scale models, memorabilia… I love the place. Here is the link: http://www.autobooks-aerobooks.com/display.php?id=000170

They also have a private parking lot, and offered to rope off part of it for some of our cars (10 VWs shouldn’t be a problem). If you have an air-cooled VW, feel free to bring it!

Here is some key information about the event:
   WHEN: Saturday, February 16 – 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
WHERE: Autobooks - 3524 W. Magnolia Blvd. Burbank, CA 91505. For a map, click here: http://www.autobooks-aerobooks.com/contact.php. Phone: 818.845.0707

Autobooks carries Demon Bugs; so if you haven’t purchased this book, you will be able to find it in the store.

Hope to see you guys there!

I'll be there Stephan. The last time I was at that store I met Jay Leno. He drove in with his Stanley steamer. I need to purchase a book from you. Will you save me a copy when I show up, or do I need to purchase one before than? Steve Niendorf.

Thanks to all for your replies!
Steve, no need to purchase a copy before you show up. Autobooks will have a stack on site. See you there!

Good times....what a cool store. Nice to see all the guys, and meet new friends. Nice day out for a drive too. Who's black Lancia was that out front when I left? Pretty car!

Stephan, write some more books so we can hang out in their store and lot more often.

Jim

man, I am hooked on that place! Next weekend the Alfa Club meets up there......COOL! Grin

That black Lancia was Mr. Leno's. I walked outside to get a better look at it. After talking to Sarge, I turned around and said hi to Jay as he walked out from the store. He got in his car and said goodbye to all of us.

Good seeing and meeting a few of you, today. Below is a quick rundown of what took place, for those that couldn't make it out.

What a great store this is! I'm going back there with my roommate, next week when I have more time to check everything out.

Note the book signing poster to the left of the entrance door. (coughDannycough) HAHA!!

A few cars showed up early in the day.

A closer look... didn't know who's car this was, but nicely done.

I really dug on this one.

This rolling VW accessory catalog was a trip.

Inside, Stephan set up shop and everyone had a good time hangin' out.

Came across THIS guy and haven't seen him since 1983. Which, by the way, made my day even better.
We had a blast catchin' up, talkin', and hangin' out.

Dyno, gettin' his book signed.

Outside, in the back of the shop, a few more cars scattered throughout the parking lot, made for another great place to hangout and talk. I finally had the honor of meeting this wonderful car and it's owner, Sarge.

Herr Scwhimmer's Käfer.

Jim's.

All in all, a good turnout. At least by the sign of books that sold out. Afterwards, a few of us walked down to a local eatery and continued to enjoy another perfect weather So Cal winter day.

I cannot thank you guys enough for showing up at the book signing! I really did not know what turnout to expect. You know how in some movies you see an author sitting at a table with a stack of 100 books, and nobody around? I had that same vision…  Wink

Anyway, people definitely showed up, and an hour after the signing began, the store ran out of books! Autobooks just didn’t expect so many people. THANKS again to all for the support, kind words, and for buying the book. It has been said before: cars are just toys allowing people to meet; but in the end, what makes me appreciate the VW scene are the valuable friendships.

On the way back home, my wife Tania and I stopped by the Petersen Museum, half an hour before closing. Got in for free and enjoyed an impressive display of Low Riders. We finished at a Hungarian restaurant, in memory of my (Hungarian) dad, who happened to be an author himself.

What a great day!
