Those pictures taken from some dried up grassy park in 1972 of the DKP cars... there's a number of them in Keith's book... (Mahaffey's split, Arnie's '67, your '63, Stan Davis' late model, mark Thurber's brown car...)
What was going on that day? Where was that park? Looks like there were DKP cars as far as the eye could see...

Those pics were taken at Featherly Park in Yorba Linda.  It was right after the park opened, so the shrubery was pretty sparse.

True...it only lasted a few months after John sold it.  I have plenty of memories of cruising in that car...and working on it!

I love that one too.  Being from "pre" Cal-look days as far as magazines are concerned, was it ever featured?  Would love to see detail shots of it.  I imagine if there were any, we'd have seen them by now.

I'm pretty sure John had VDO instruements...we worked at Auto Haus back then and that was where you'd get most of your stuff.

That sounds right, Jim.  Thinking back on John's car...it started life red.  As a 40hp, it had a Judson and an 010 distributor.  It was later repainted at Babe's in Fullerton...the color was firemist green metalic and was truely a thing of beauty with loads of clear on a flawless base.  John had Babe's reshoot the car in butternut years later but the job was rough (the paint never really hardened) so he drug it over to Becker's to get it right.

As I recall, Lazenby had Fleming build a new engine towards the end of his ownership of that Bug ('73ish?). It was an 78.4x88, with Fleming heads and IDAs, 120 or 130 cam, and a magneto.
