"Inhale the world", (in memory of MH)

« on: September 21, 2006, 12:39:14 pm »

To me, it's not all about the car, the stance, the power or even the IDA's, and according to some back-issue of Volks World that goes for not only me, but at least the one who wrote it, (can't remember what issue).

So guys, what's the first song, band, album og even genre that comes to your mind when you get behind the wheel, or when you see a cal-looker cruise down some so-cal. boulevard or whatever?

My choices:

Song: The Ramones' "Rockaway Beach", (even though that's on the east coast) or "California Sun" by the same band.

Band: The Saints, (superb seventies garage)

Album: Rocket To Russia, Ramones again.

Genre: Garage, acid, punk, rock'n'roll

So, roll the diece, and don't forget the infamous Rolling Stones tour of America 1972.

WOW....another great thread!

For me (don't forget-OLD), nothing takes me back better then The Doors' Light my Fire or the Stones' Goin' Home.  How about some Iron Butterfly Ina Godda Davida?  Man, goose bumps!  All played through a Muntz 4 track over the roar of close ratio's and IDA's.......

Me I really like "California Dreaming" by the Mamas and Papas...

If I had a Working radio in my Bug, and if the Sun would shin all day long, I would Open the Ragtop, and listen to this....

Also, I really like the old Stuff from Aerosmith, Queen, AC/DC, Ozzy.....

And not to Forget the Beastie Boys and Cypress Hill...

Anyway, I think somebody should do a "SPECIAL CAL-LOOK" Compilation CD with these old California Inspired Songs, would be Killer to listen to during the Summer!!!

I always think of the American Grafitti sound track - Like Millner says "Rock n Roll has been going down hill ever since Buddy Holly died"

I've even got the sound track on 8 track  Cool

Great thread! Hell yeah, Stray Cats rule, but they call for a leadsled or a metalflaked 60s style deuce with chrome reverse wheels, wide whites... Um, well talking about music, my all time favourite car or cal look sounds:
Social Distortion (everything, any album, any song, but especially "don't take me for granted", "highway 101",  "don't drag me down" and "through these eyes")
Ramones - sheena is a punk rocker
Ramones - I don't wanna grow up
Red Hot Chili Peppers - scar tissue
Red Hot Chili Peppers - by the way
Kyuss - green machine
Stray Cats - somethin' else
Stray Cats - sexy + 17
various Surf stuff from Dick Dale & his Del-Tones (any song!), The Dynotones, ...
old Punkrock from the Buzzcocks (did you know their drummer is called John Maher and runs a renowned vw engine shop in the UK?)
Rob Zombie - thunder kiss 65
Rob Zombie - super charger heaven

...well there's so much great music around that makes me feel like jumping into my car and heading for some lonely highway...  Cool

Cal Look music for me would be some of the North OC bands like Agent Orange, Adolescents,Social D & some LA bands like X, The Dickies & Circle Jerks. Ramones would be cool also, Went to see them a few times in the 80's, it was always interesting...Later Bill

A lot of songs from Dick Dale. Song that I really like and is great to drive on is Booker T and the MG's - Green Onions.

People who know me only as a suit-and-tie guy will perhaps raise an eyebrow, but whenever I get behind the wheel, cal-look or not, I always find myself grinning with the biggest of smiles when the sound of Metallica's "KIll 'em all" fills my lugholes...and then some Rammstein for dessert. Guess my insurance company would charge me 100% extra just by knowing this...

Funny mr. Pig, i kinda knew you as the guy with the suit crumbled together in the backseat, and the tie tied 'round your head. I'm not surprised at all.

Lot's of great suggestions guys, keep 'em coming. A compilation is in the works "as we speak"! Free copies to all contribiutors when the cd is full and 'till the stack is empty.

Ok, guys i think this thread has served it's purpose now, so thanks to everyone for contributing.

Thing is, I'm currently compiling music from all of your suggestions on "what is cal look music" to make a "private compilation", not for resale of course, so I will not violate any rights of the music's owner/composer.

I've checked this with the record company that I'm signed on to myself, and they said as long as the purpose is private use for a couple of friends, I can go on with the project.

So, as christmas is closing in I will hereby offer everyone who has posted their favourite music in this topic a free cd, with a tasteful cal-look cover, liner notes from the thread and so on. A nice memory to have in the glove box or the garage.

So if your name is in one of the posts above, please send me your adress in a private message to recieve the cd "California sun vs Rockaway Beach" for free in your mailbox, hopefully in time for christmas.

Due to lack of response on this thread, (3 adresses) i allow myself to bump it now and then so everyone who has contribiuted 'till now will get the chance to own a piece of cal-look lounge history.

Come on guys, send me those adresses and I'll list you up for this years cooles x-mas gift!

I've got a few more in my inbox now, but there's room for more. Anyways, I'll wrap it up the first weekend in december in order to get all cd's out in time for christmas. In other words, I vill not make any more cd's from that time on, so this is a one time offer only, and it's still for free.

Yeah, too bad buddy-butkiss! I know there's a whole lotta rock'n'roll in you, but now it's too late to let it out. You know, with so few cd's in print, theres no saying how much they will cost you as a collector in a couple of years.

Well, perhaps we can arrange something Johnny, it should be said in your defense that you got a name from a song by Nasareth. They rocked the seventies alongside ZZ-Top amongst others, so let me think it over pal.

Just another bump, cause theres room for many more orders lads, and i just figured out that WASP's "Blind In Texas" should be on the alternative disc, for the race only fans.

I'm off for a trip to Newcastle tomorrow, and I'm gonna see the boston punkrockers Dropkick Murphys' concert on friday, so I will not be able to answer to any orders for the cal-look cd, but I'll take care of it all when we're back home.

Cheers!
