I think its just practice practice and more practice!

On old guy that restores MG's near me gave me a tip he said if you shut your eyes and listen to the welding if you have the settings right it should sound like frying eggs and bacon! lol sounds stupid but it worked for me to setup my mig right.

Ben

Been down the same road as you. I've got a early 70's 1200 that I turned into a us spec 67 look alike in about 94 after seeing hector bonilla's 67 in volksworld back in the early 90's. (Think it was Feb 1993 issue). I too should have sold it and started with a 67 but I've had mine since feb '86 so couldn't get rid of it   Roll Eyes Still get some stick for being a fake  Tongue

Just got a new engine with the help of Martin " boom boom " Greave and a few others on the longe ( thanks guys) and that should be in for EBI with a box from rancho .

Good luck and here a few photos of mine.

ps you should be ok for bits, staff discount and all that Cheesy

And very it was too on that 2 hr drive to find food! Grin Grin

Cars looking good though Ben, sounds serious with the big motor & 6 point cage too Shocked

I can't weld/cut so it's for the best Grin

I kind of like the clean side of building a car after the bodywork and have had some practice on Bernies car recently so I should have it right by the time I get to do mine Grin

Now the bug is in the workshop, i thought i'd get things ready for Mike, so i got some solid '67 doors from Karmann Konnection, stripped out the wiring and removed a bundle of soundproofing. I also trial fitted the Eyebrow lid Grin

I went to the garage a couple of weeks ago to mount the '67 reservoir and washer bottle and started to dig some filler out of the front arch. the panel is solid and had a few dents so i don't know why there was so much plod in there. I think it was put in to meet the repro front wing. Waiting for Mike to finish another bug so he can weld the A-pillars and Channels in then i can seperate it from the pan and take it to Volksmagic so he can put the IRS clips in on his chassis Jig Grin

It's a tough life crewing on Stitch Up, looking forward to racing this weekend and a nice weekend off at Bug-in next week............Life's a Drag Grin

It's been going well considering I've only had 2 weekends free since January, this is why I haven't worked on it; it's a list of shows i've been to in the last year
