Yes, I quite like the colour to, you are right though it is just the etch primer. It does seem to work well though!

started to detail up these, (bought from Rocket Ron).
forgot to say those wheels came off the Yellow German postal Frid that went to the states a few years ago. Must be some of the most widely travelled wheels out there.

I'm sure most of you guys will hate this because it's not a cal looker in the typical sense but I'm building a replica of one from my youth. It's a very 1990's Euro cal look and was based on a 77 Bug. The guy had colour coded ATS so I'm going down the same road and have just picked up a set of ATS.

Good idea. I think they're a really nice wheel and something a little different but for this project it's got to be as the car was to me when I was a teenager..............I'll probably hate it when it's done

Here are mine all ready for tires. I have 4.5's in the front and 5.5's in the rear. Too bad the caps aren't in the best condition but Porsche caps (reproduction) are like $70 and $80 each. I bought all 6 caps that I have for $90 shipped. I might get new trim rings as well. I got tired of looking at the silver 356 rims on my car. It looks too plain in primer! Plus now I will have disc brakes in the front and rebuilt front suspension!

This trade is going worse and worse !
the question "was what kind of wheel for your cal look ?" and not "what wheels you cant put on a cal look ?" !
Could we use a BRM on a German Look ? ....nop !
Like we cant use ATS to make a Cal-Look...

I believe if the wheel goes with the look, who cares? If you want old school, then you limited to only Alloys, Empi 5 spoke, Empi 8 spoke, Centerline, Porsche wide 5 chrome's, and so on. I believe Speedwell was also asking cause of other options that are out there now days and some of classic wheels that come out from the graves so to speak. If you want to get technical, most cars out there are not OG Cal-Look, look at the motors! MSD Dist., with 6AL box's, different breathers that have come out, pulley's, Wisco pistons, and so on! So that means the car's that are Cal-Look on out side are not Cal-Look on inside, meaning motors. I believe my own car is in that category. Maybe be Cal-look on outside, but I feel it's not on the inside. I think we are all that in some degree. It's like when I go to Nicks for the DKP Cruz nights. I see how they are put together and how clean they are, and the craftmanship that went into those car's, not judging them on how Cal-Look or unCal-Look they are. So to say BRM's for German look and ATS for Cal-Look, WHO CARE's! As long as it looks right right, and you like it. Now that's
my
opinion! So bring on the ATS's or what ever you got!

Now that I've got the 4 wheels discs and all new suspension, I'm almost ready to start stuffing in the big engine. Now if it would only not rain for next month or 2.

That's sounding pretty cool... hopefully, you'll not encounter any rain. Can't wait to see your car when you get it running. Really liking it.

Well said Ted. To me Cal look has always been about building the best you can with what resources you have to hand and with wheels being a major expense it stands to reason that sometimes people have to stray away from the norm but that's what makes it interesting.

(real) german lookers only care about the weight off the wheels, brakes they can put behind it and the tire they can fit on it. look only comes after that.
but i think you can make a nice callooker with ats wheels, just like the ronal wheel. they werent there in cali in the 70'ies, but they look good.
like this one from Swen hensel.
