1966 Sunroof Daily Driver (getting there)

I sold my first real project car which was a 65 bug all because I wanted something I could drive and not be worried about. After the 65 was sold to a guy in Sacramento I searched for a original car. I looked for a while and all the cars were rusty, or just complete piles of shit.  I had no idea finding a clean car would be so hard. I posted a wanted add on cal-look.com and came across this 66 sunroof from a old DKP member.









It has had one very thin repaint, but has never been hit and was very solid. The car came out of LA and we met in Sacramento during the BOR.



I always like Gas Burners so I posted a wanted add on Pelican Parts and I had made a deal on a set within a few hours. I touched up the paint and detailed the center caps and they were done.



I got a set of Disc and re drilled drums and modified bus master cylinder from Russ at Oldspeed. The fender wells are super clean. I am going to strip the undercoating off and leave them painted.









The car has some cool old stickers on it I will keep...





I have about a month of work into it now. I have to get the idle mixture set right. The engine is 69x94, built by Topline, nothing to fancy, but a good driver. Trans was built by Jim Kaforski. I put 205/70's out back and 165's up front for now till I get some Michelin 145's that are always gone....







I will get some door panels in soon after I redo the door seals.





It's driving now..still some tuning to do and things to finish, but it's almost there. All the paint has been buffed out, I had some stainless trim from my old car. A few more seals to go and then refurb the sunroof seals and cables and it will be water proof.

Not sure about the about the sticker I am guesssing it was just on the popouts when installed. It was Johnnys...good guess.

The running boards are all I had....I wanted black, but thought I would use these for a bit.

Chris, your car is looking good. Any rubbing issues with those 165s? They suit the wider wheels good you should leave them.

I was surprised they don't rub. I have Michelin 145's on the way that I plan on running.

A little engine clean up (wiring ect) and I changed all the breather lines from plain rubber. Also the 145's have been fitted. I am just waiting on some Type 3 brakes to get some more room out back.

Rebuilt the sunroof, works like a champ now and looks 200% better, also got alot of the glue of the roof. I just need to get a felt seal for the front and back of the sunroof panel. Got some misc wiring figured out also, everything works except I still need to work on the wiper water sprayer some more.

Nice job on the sunroof! Polished sunroof rails are the only way to go. Its amazing whats hidden under factory painted parts.

sweet car chris can you give us the lowdown on the engine and box please.top marks on all the detail.

Jim Kaforski built the trans, nothing to special.... stock 67 gears, 4:12 RP, Super diff ect.. Engine is 69x94, 42x35 CBHeads, DPR crank, EMPIs 40s, Berg Linkage, Topline built the engine. It will be a nice driver when done.

Added some stainless stuff....Most of it will be covered when I figure out what I am doing for the interior, but I know it's there.

chris could you tell me what paints you used on your centre caps and if you done them yourself.cheers barry

I just used model paint from the hobby store. Guards red, black and a gold then some Wurths clear over the caps. They turned out pretty good. Just get a few different brushes with super small tips.

Got it out today for a quick spin with the stock rear tires and brakes as I am still waiting on my Type 3 set up. The engine bogs real bad so I need to figure that out, but the weather is crap now so not much to do.
