Right i finally got a bit more done worth putting up!

Firstly i repaired the rear wheel arch studline...........

.....................and then i replaced the rear bumper hanger with the excelent wolf repair panel!

To get all the rust off i sandblasted the underside panel! It did a really god job, but made a really big mess!!  Grin

And thats up to date now! Cant wait to get a new rear valance and weld it in! Smiley

It's really nice to be able to see the end of the weldathon!  Grin

Right, I finally done something thats worth posting up!  Grin

The first part of this was siamising two brake fluid resevoirs together, as the car will be duel circuit, and I didn't want to fit a later plastic reservoiur.

I was actually really pleased with how this looked.  Smiley

Next up was to cut the wheel well to accept it, and adjust the pressing. I was really nervous about doing as if I messsed it up their was no going back!  Cry

Anyway here's how it turned out! I think i'm happy with it!  Grin

Anyway, just thought I'd give you a bit more of a update! Smiley

Finally done a bit more work on the 58 that's worth putting up!  Smiley

Firstly a job I wasn’t looking forward to, I sorted out the passenger’s side gutter.

Here's a shot of the gutter.

Although it was generally pretty good, there were two bits that needed sorting out. Here’s how I sorted out one of the said 'bad spots'.

Where the gutter were showing signs of rust, they were opened out, sand blasted (horrible job!  Roll Eyes), primed with weld through primer and then shut up.

And here's the gutter all finished!  Smiley

Next up was the bit I've been saving till last (well nearly last!). Fitting the rear valance! Smiley

Due to replacing the bumper hangers on both sides the valance was already out, but the inner seal panel had been left in as a guide, so it was time to remove it!

I used a new panel from Autocraft as I wanted it with a single central exhaust cut out. Big thanks to Karl for getting this exactlly spot on for me! Smiley

As I’m a detail geek, I had to add in the wire holders that run inside the panel! (Yes I know I need to get out more!  Grin)

Next up was trial fitment. Notice the panel doesn’t line up very well with the wings, and the gap on the engine lid is way out.  Huh

However, after a lot of fettling (including reshaping all the edges of the hanger panels where they meet the valence) I got the panel to line up much better!  Smiley At this stage everything was loosely bolted up to make sure it all fitted right! I love this shot with the T bars on! Smiley

However, not all fitted right, and this shot shows how bad the seal channels line up. Sad

This was soon sorted out though! (Sadly I havn't got a photo of the finished panel.  Angry)

Finally time to weld the rear valence in! Smiley

And then grind back and paint!

And finally she’s in! Smiley I'm much happier with the final fit now, as the engine lid sits nice, with good small gaps!  Smiley

The last bit I did was only a small job, but was an absolute nightmare, to get it looking right, as well as clear of everything!

I've got a glass SWF washer bottle that I was going to put in the car, but I wanted it to look factory, as if it always came with it. I know most people put it in the wheel well next to the brake fluid pot, but I still wanted to run a spare wheel, as I am going to use the car. Thus I came up with this location, up in the under bonnet area. Smiley

It took a lot of measuring (a sitting in the bonnet area with the bonnet closed!  Grin), but I finally got it in the right place so the hinge doesn’t hit it when it closes! I'm really pleased with this! Smiley

Anyway, other than a few little bit's, that the body fully done now! Smiley

TIme to move on to building the chasis, and trial fitting everything! Smiley

Done a bit more work recently, and a job I thought would only take me a few days actually took 2 weeks! Roll Eyes

I've fitted a set of early Porsche 911 seats!  Smiley

Now whilst the actual size of the seats is similar to a stock Beetle they actually mount very differently. In a Porsche they are fixed directly to runners on the floor, where as a beetle has a frame that raises the seat.  This meant that after removing the seats of the stock runner frames I then had to section the seat to take about 50mm out of them to get them to the right height. However, when they were slid back the seat now caught the tunnel at the back of the runners so I then had to add 20mm BACK INTO the seat frame at the back to lift the back of the seat up and clear. Add to this having to custom make stops, and catches for the seat backs so that they didn’t just fall back and locked in position it was a lot of work.

Anyway I’m really pleased with the end result. Smiley

Here’s them mounted in my daily (also another 59!) Smiley
