I think I might own a 67 1200 basic model. Some of the one of parts have been replaced but most of it is still there.
Mine doesn't have a fuel gauge, interior light or front trim. Still has rubber mats all round, grey plastic strip down the b pillar, and the original 1200 motor.
Its a UK right hand drive car in pearl white. Below is a pic. Didn't realise 1200 basic models were few & far between.

Here's a 1300 that I saw a couple years ago.  Really liked its basic appearance.  Was from Canada, if I remember correctly.

In the '80s, this was my favorite '67 Standard. D.K.K.'s own Jeffrey Hicken drove this beauty around town. Such a cool car!

what actually consistutes a standard car. I am talking for US import.
I just sold a all original 67 that had full trim, bumper guard (chrome bar from left over rider to right side)
radio, floor mats and carpet along with a locking decklid. this car I got from the original owner and it had 100,000 miles on it.
Now the 67 I just got  has the bumper guards, rubber mats, no radio and it has the little factory plug still in place and no
locking engine deck lid.
were the little accessories just added on here at the dealers? radio, locking latches??

No guys it's not mine, that would have been cool but I just found the pics on the net  Cheesy Cheesy. And by the way, my daily driver is a 77 mk1 (and I'll never put those crystal ugly and shitty headlights on mine !) Grin.

The deal with my wife was I will sell my earlybay to pay for the restoration on this beauty. I think we need to renegotiate these terms now its here Grin
Spent a couple of hours getting up close with it this morning. It still has the strange rubber carpets and original floor mats. Door panels are great and seats look good. I wont to doing much to the interior other than a good clean.

Found on ebay if you prefer.
I have started  today removing the paint but not sure how much will be left after welding is done. It is satisfying though and I realise what a labour of love this is as I did a baywindow once that was way more stubborn than the paint on this beetle.
My baywindow has a 2017cc type1 engine and would be great in this beetle but I think its matching numbers so would be a real shame to change it.

I agree. you can do the car (in this case I would actually do it as original yeah I am getting old) and service the original engine, keep it and put in a fun 1776 or your 2017 if you want. should be fun.

the " b " pillar on my 73 1200 standard is just painted metal with a dark grey plastic strip that covers the join of the two metal panels that meet there.

i'll get some photos later.

This is the factory finish as when I got my car it had all 1200 standard spec bits ie the rubber floor mats and felt type carpet. two owners from new.

Shame I f**ked it all up and chucked away all the mats, put early panels on it etc.

It was the mid '80s, a £150 car and I didn't know any better Roll Eyes Roll Eyes 


Did exactly the same to my '68 1200 basic...
Added 67 front and rear valence etc, 67 doors, 1600tp (now 2276 though).
It's ready for some more work, and I wonder whether to take it back to 68 spec...

Everybody and their dog loves '67s, but the rarest '67 of them all is the 1200 Standard  or 'Base Model'. It get's a whole lot rarer if it was originally ordered from new with the optional Golde ragtop sunroof (the last Beetle model/year to be offered by VW with a ragtop.) And then it gets far rarer if it was also ordered new as a Right Hand Drive car - as the only ones know were ordered as hire cars by a company on the Channel Islands between England and France.

It is thought 10 cars were ordered - about three are still known.

One of them is for sale!

I own one of these.  It's a 1967 "Volkswagen Sedan with sliding canvas sun roof, RHD".  It's a Type 116.  This car was pretty famous in the 80's which is why I bought it with the intention of restoring it to its former glory.  It's now sat in primer and is a blank canvas as far as I see it.
