Rich "Selecta" Whitlock's old '72 - done to look like a '66, with eyebrow lid, lexan headlight covers etc. looked ace with trhe 914's fully polished - I don't think the factory detailing would have worked so well with the dark paint (Porsche Iris Blue).

I did have some clearance issues with mine and dropped spindles, until I clearanced the lower edge on the lower trailing arm, and fitted 3.00mm wheel spacers.

2.0 Fuch's, Pedrini's, and Mahle's are all 5 1/2" wide with 4 3/4" backspace. Drop spindle ball joints will rub ever so slightly, just have the wheel machined a hair. Original EMPI Spyder's are 5 3/8" wide with 4 3/8" backspace as I recall... it's been a while since I've measured mine. They wont rub on the ball joints.

Man I wish somebody had told me that at the time I was having my issue.  I had a set of OG Fuchs, 2.0 liter alloys, needed polishing and/or paint detail, whichever way I wanted to go, picked 'em up for $50.  One wheel had a bit of curb damage, but the others were fine.  Ended up getting rid of them because I refused to grind on the bottom ball joint; had I known I could machine in the ball joints deeper or else machine the backs of the wheels, I never would have let them go.  Que sera sera.

Can't go wrong with 2.0 Fuchs wheels and an orange air cooled German car.
