I think it would be cool to dedicate a thread not on the party, not on the waiting for it to be published, not when it will be released, but just on the book itself. I don't have a copy yet, buy hope to get one soon. I did get to thumb through a copy @ Doug's place last weekend and it made some good impressions to say the least. I'm anxious to get a copy and sit down and enjoy it. From the quick flip thru I did, what stood out was how many old pictures that most of us have never seen, are all over the pages. Not the current, hi-tech, ultra resolution stuff you find in most books in 2008, which makes this book a star. These are pics from family albums and guys' shoeboxes, hidden away and protected by spiders.
I really enjoyed the pics of Schwimmer's Porsche-beige oval... the launch shots of that car are incredible. How I missed it at Baylands when I was 17 is beyond me.
The chapter on Mahaffey's split and its evolution to becoming "the fastest VW in town" had some pictures of that legendary car that blew my mind. Can't wait to sit down and read all about it.

Those of you that have the book, tell us your impressions.

Good job Keith, it's been a long time coming.

Good call, Jim. Can't wait to get my copy. I'm also buying two more for Christmas presents. There were so many great old shots in there, I can't remember 'em all. Those are what I enjoyed the most. Glad that I was lucky enough to have the chance to read a few pages and see the pictures beforehand.

Thanks again, Keith. Superb job!

Jim, you are psychic. I was going to make a thread like this, but I wanted to wait until my book arrived. This should be good.

I like this book because it's more about the owners of the cars and their stories then it is about the cars themselves.  Sometimes, you just forget about some of the stuff that went down and Keith's hard work has put a load of those old stories as well as some vintage photos back together again for us to enjoy.  I'm most appreciative! Cool Cool Cool

That is the same book. Just a preproduction, prototype, Works addition. Very rare, only Paul Bates got that one.

Gwynn at VW Collectibles has the in stock (mail her on gwynn@vwcollectibles.com) and can handle European orders no problem – personally dedicated/signed, too. Ultra VW will have them in stock Monday or Tuesday, also. (www.ultravw.com)

In the USA, FAT Performance has a (very) few, and Motorbooks will be getting theirs soon. Ignore what Amazon says (ie, available January) as they are just covering themselves...  Smiley
