Hi Jim,
According to an old Gene Berg catologue, he states the '42dcnf flows 515 CFM, the '44dcnf flows 530 CFM and the almighty 48 IDA with 37 venturis flows 540 CFM. These are expressed in terms of each. Walt

FYI to anyone that was curious about this thread... I may be selling my 42's soon. Mine are 34mm vents with 180 air, F25 emulsion, 140 main and 60 idle. They were rebuilt and Berg-ified last June with Berg velocity stacks and non-Berg Type 1 aluminum manifolds and K&N oval filters. About 6K miles on them, driven daily in So. Cal.
Sorry for the hijack... we now return to our previous thread already in progress...

Dual IDAs flow 1080 CFM. That is pretty crazy. I wonder if a domestic 4 barrel carb of similar CFM would give the same performance. Anyone have some incite on this Amazing how well the IDA works on the flat 4.

Anyone have some incite on this Amazing how well the IDA works on the flat 4. It all has to do with plenum (typical V8) vs independent runner (high perf VW and most highly tuned European sports engines). A IR situation ony allows one cylinder to pull from its intake runner and carb throat. A V8 with a tunnel ram lets any cylinder that is on intake stroke to pull from the sky through any and all of those 4bbl or (8bbl if double carbs are used). A lot of guys see dual Webers on a Bug and say it's "overcarburated"... sure sign that they don't know how Webers (or engines ) work.

Yeah, i figured as much, but wanted to get some imput. So, is each barrel technically pulling only 270 CFM?
