Sorry these are late, but I've had no Internet connection for the last day and half.

Let's start out at the staging lanes within the Irwindale Raceway compound.

A LOT of turbo cars, this year.

Registration and Tech Inspection after all of the (140, I think) cars finally made it through.

Cross mojonation 'tween Panzers and a Kampfwagen.

Some good race action went as planned, all day.

Where there are fast VWs, there will be Dyno Don!

Some cool vehicles in the swap meet area, as usual protocol typically dictates.

Being a skateboarder, I'm lucky enough to have a couple of sponsors. But Worm has a GREAT sponsor. I need to figure out a way to get on Team Guinness.

My girlfriend and I really thought this was cool... Mr. Mason's car being piloted by Mrs. Mason.

This Type 2 truck was VERY impressive with it's high speed passes.

And seen, here, in action.

Ed Economy conversing with said vehicle's pilot.

So many cool cars in so little time/space to admire them.

Another angle of Indecent Exposure... getting ready to do what it does best.

This gorgeous late 'Vert was parked near us. Has a Porsche 912 engine and a few other tricks throughout the car.

Such as...

Not many people know this, but before Mark Ramirez was in D.K.K. he was in the second incarnation of D.K.P. And has the album & patch to back it up. SO many great pictures from days gone past.

I leaned over the spectator (Jersey) barrier to capture this site that let's us all know that all is well with the world. Dee Berg enjoying her lovely Split Window... as it very well should be.

More swap meet bits.

Speaking of swap meet, Tod and I watched (with our jaws wide open) as this guy pulled into the parking lot. Before the guy could exit his car, I started firing off questions as to what the heck this vehicle WAS.

Believe it or not, he told us that a college class of students actually built this as one of their assignments. Just BIZARRE!

Note the Oval Window speaker grilles used as engine cool air intake garnish, located on the rear cowling, just behind the back window.

During lunch break (hey, Master Of Ceremonies needs to eat, too), I got to go into the tower and greet my old friend, Don.

Now why weren't THESE made available to me back when I first got my license? Oh, the fun I could have.

Another clean car on display.

Some interesting goodies are always lurking in the swap meet.

About mid-day, Dyno made an announcement honoring Mike Smith. Yes, the same one that drove the Mike Smith car, years ago.

Now THIS was cool! Tod and I watched this engine start up a couple of times. But check out the vintage throw switch. I haven't seen one of those since my Saturday morning Warner Bros. cartoons.

Don also made mention of the Germans that were there. They're responsible for one of the latest Volkswagen car ads on television.

Herr Foster getting ready to put his Panzer to the test.

Dig this dual wheeled Thing. Put those Drivers' Education pedals on this and let the fun times begin.

Hey, there's that one convertible!

Speaking of 'Vert cars.

More good stuff.

I was stoked to find an old Bill & Steve's license plate frame from their previous shop location. But as I was leaving, Steve had told me that he hadn't seen one of those since '86 and he didn't have one. So, I did the only right thing... I gave it to him. On one condition; that I get a picture with it. HAHA!! Yeah, I'm weird like dat.

More race stuff.

I'll never tire of seeing or photographing this car. Just wish that I had better lighting conditions.

A few buggies were in the mix, as well.

Ernie Baron's Ruby Red '66. I'm a sucker for that year of Beetle... so I had to take a pic.

Return lane.

Worm turns the Wayback Machine to '77-'82. We gotta get those pics scanned or use 'em in Keith's next book.

What WILL they think of, next? Notice the tow handle... nice Bus shifter, yes?

As to be expected, tons of Bus presence.

And another.

Deeper, still...

Some cool features on this.

VW Drag Day is open to any car of which is powered by a VW engine. Here's a VW powered Porsche.

Why have a V8 when a flat four does the job?

This was/is one CLEAN car! It debuted on Sunday.

To say that it's nicely prepared would be a gross understatement.

The inner-sanctum.

More love from A-1. No... not the beloved steak sauce.

The power cosmic.

Whilst on the subject of power and cosmic.

A few of us DEEKS made everyone's day miserable by showing up.

Mark, Chad, and Roy... I think. If that's Roy, he's one of the founding members of D.K.K.

There's that pretty red car from a recent Hot VWs magazine.

Cleared for take-off.

This was absolutely GREAT! An old VW engine, complete w/magneto, ready to pump water. Very elaborate and looked to be quite effective, too. I'm around and operate fuel & oil pumps of all sizes. Wish we had one like that.

This will bring back memories for those of us that worked at the VW/Porsche+Audi parts counters. Or to those that spent any amount of time buying parts at the dealer.

Another VW Drag Day goes in the books and as we all headed for our respective homes, the sun finally started to make an appearance. Which was shortly after we saw this clean Squareback on the freeway.

See you at the next VW event!

And, I ran into a survivor DKK car from the early 80's.  Manual (his name) had the original club stickers in the window and everything.  This guy has had the oval rag all these years.  Told him to get his a$$ on this site and post a few pics for you guys.

Manny's car, wife, and dog (Potatoe)..... Cool Smiley  In the last pic, Christie and John Lazenby with Ed Craig in the background and Dave Rosique on the right.

COOL! I saw that car with D.K.K. stickers at the last Cruise Night at Nick's. I meant to ask someone about that.

Here's a few that I just found.

Unique and uncommon wheels, anyone? I wonder if George ended up selling these... Tod?

The event plaque. (I have two left over)

This image could be from any decade starting with the sixties. But it's actually from this current decade.

I really dig this car. Nicely done and good looking color.

Ian makes sure that the badge backs up what's under the decklid. Yep! 912 it IS.

Fantastic job with the photos Mark!!  (Sarge too) Mark I only saw you the once when you were shooting me from the tower. I saw your car though and noticed the headlight rings and got a shot. It was a real fun event although for me it was mostly wasted in the staging lanes. I had no idea that was Mike Smith I was next to him in staging practicaly the whole day. Well again great job on the coverage thanks a million.
Jason

BTW: Mark giving Mr. Makepeace that Bellflower frame that my friend was a Class act bud.

Hey Mark.... I saw the guy selling the wheels, too.  There were two Halibrand spindle mounts for sale with the five spokes (you can see a little bit of one on the left of the photo).  I asked how much... the dude said "two".... "as in two hundred", I asked.... "two thousand" Shocked was the reply.

Yep. That was George, which is one of Tod's friends. We were talking about all of those wheels.

Again... thank you, everyone. I figure it like this; I get to sit in front of my computer and see all of the different cars from varying countries, all over the globe. The least that I can do is return the favor. I'm glad that a few of us can provide that window for all to see. That, and I love taking pictures.
