On the bright side, Bill Taormina from your area bought it, so it should pop up at various socal VW events from time to time.  Dyno Don did a lot of the negotiating for Bill when he bought it from me in Feb 2008.

Oh, bummer... didn't know that. I'll keep an eye out for it in So Cal. Did you use the factory (or like factory) fender beading on that? Looks good. Sadly, Zenith Blue is no longer available.

Still more on the bright side, I have a '64 metal sunroof project I'm working on now...should be cool.

The fender beading is pearl white repro stuff from Wolfsburg West, as are the running boards.

Both are w/ 195/65's.

Just put 195/65 Goodyear Eagle GT on my car Saturday. I actually prefer the slightly narrower tire (was running 205/65 Firestone), mostly because the sidewall is much stiffer now (they do not balloon out like 205 did), and are "flush" with edge of FF BRM. The diameter changed less that .5", so gearing changes seem neglible. Even at a lower inflation, these new Goodyears seem to be much more sure footed than the squishy Firestones were up @ 34psi (and the centers went away from overinflation on them). Hard to say if the car tracks truer on I-5 and 118 freeway in the gusty wind, as I think I have a sour front wheel bearing,

Thanks for the props, yep that is my old car.  Buddy did a great job.  AJ Sims did a great job on the motor.  And I did a good job putting it all together.   

I miss it, but I am happy it's in Socal in the good hands of Bill Taormina.  I just hope it is getting exercised and not parked in a warehouse with Bill's other gajillion collector cars.

Those 195/65`s are just too low profile fpr me. On my latest car I am running some Cooper Trendsetter 205/70`s that look much narrower than the BF Goodrich`s I`ve run in past. I like the new 165r80`s that are out now too.

165/80/15 sounds like a great tire size. Never seen any on a Beetle. I'd like to find a 175 with the same profile as my current rear tires are now, down the road, when mine wear out.

Looks like Tire Rack has the Khumo in the 165/80/15 for $45 ea.

Yeah, they are basically the replacement for the old 165 size and are about an inch taller overall.

here in italy for the "Law" on a beetle you can only use 155/80 and 165/80 ...

fitted some 165/80's on the back. looks cool, but they don't have that bad ass look of the 205's.

for they are goof enough, but in the future i need to get me some bigger tyres.
