I had the opportunity to visit Japan last weekend & had a fantastic time! Arriving in Tokyo on Friday night, friend Satoshi Furuuchi (of Street VWs Magazine) picked me up and drove me to the house of another long-time pal, Nao Fujita (of Flat-4 fame). Nao had been working on a top secret project car for some time and wanted to have it ready for last Sunday's Street VWs Jamboree (i.e., two days later). Hats off to Nao for getting the car ready just in time - he did not sleep at all on Thursday night & Saturday night! I also ended up helping him put the car together on Saturday & had a blast.

The car is not intended to be a replica, but rather a tribute of the Berg's '67 sedan, hence the tongue-in-cheek name. ("Berm" is an acronym for "BRM" as many Loungers will know). Rather than the '70's version, Nao chose to "copy" the early '90s version of the car, as this is how he remembers seeing the car for the first time. The car is an older California import with an older paintjob; still... the car looked great last Sunday, under the Japanese sunshine!

Good job, Nao. And thanks to you and Satoshi for your warm welcome!

Now this is a nice tribute, funny name, I'm sure it is promoting the new Flat 4 Berms, and if not Komori-San should donate a set  Wink

It would have fit on a certain chekered stage for sure. Maybe it will fit in the trunk of Komori-Sans car he's bringing over for EBI3?

Had to go out and buy a second set for the front after a miss-hap. Didn't know they were supposed to be like that. Time to get out the wrenches again.Smiley

Stephan, thanks for reporting on this. What a great tribute. Best I've seen in awhile.

Sarge, I'm like you... I have one t-bar that looks exactly like that. Wish that I could find the two back ones. I've only located the fronts. Super light alloy ones from the late '70s.

Does anyone have engine pics of The Berm's car?

Thanks for all !!

Special thanks goes to Stephan!! He took a whole day to detail the car while I'm at work.
Regarding the bent T- bar, I thought about it but I'm sure they(Team Berg's) did not intended to do so....so I thought keep it straight as it suppose to be!!

Well, it need a lot more work to be done. Install MOROSO battrey cut off @ right rear quater panel..
electrical have to be re done, so the old Autometer will work! etc etc

First, here is the rear view of the car. Enjoy!! Grin

When was the last time you saw such an Economotors Riverside frame? Very early frame, that's for sure!

Wow....I think many of you know the detail on THE BERG'S !!
I did not want to make replica of it. So as you can see, lI did not put "DRIVING FOR PERFECTION" plate on the back and I use CA black plate with original early EMPI license flame. I wanted to have fun with what I have and use the parts I have and  like...So original steering was out!! Now it's N.O.S. original EMPI GT steering is installed.(So not a N.O.S. anymore..) Radio was removed and put block off plate but for the anntena hole was cover with '67 original stainless steel plug.

Thanks all!!

Well, what's under the lid....sure it is not 92mm x 95mm Porsche piston (Merlin motor)! Oh...I wish.
It's small displacement with high compression that I can say.
This engine was once intalled on the white '67 of XXXXXXX and can be seen on Hot VWs magazine. Guess who?
However, the heads need to be re-welded and fix. Need new guide and seats.

There are some billet items on the engine that I do not like. So I will chenge a little and looks may be different than how it was.
I will take some photo when it's complete.

OH... MY... GOD, this picture is just pure poetry in motion. WOW!

That there is suitable for framing. What a GREAT car! By the way, that license plate frame ROCKS!!! I'm a big fan of obscure frames.

(edit) Dave, we shall talk, my friend.

Okay... I don't mean to be weird, but why does the left rear fender have the overrider hole (plugged) and the right side does not? Forgive me if I'm not seeing it. I AM old and my eyes are like that of a person 50 years older than me. Sorry in advance, if I'm wrong.
