Whose stupid idea was that?

« on: May 04, 2009, 17:24:32 pm »

Well, lets get this started.  What a cool day.  To everyones surprise, so many of the ol' DKK crew showed up today.  It was AWESOME to see crew just funnel out of the woodwork and all end up in one place at the same time.  There were surprise visits by Mark Ito, Steve Wilkerson, Dee Phillips (the 1st president from way back DKK), and numerous others.  We had a blast rummaging thru old pictures telling stories, catching up on each others lives etc.  Amazing to say the least.  (Post those group pics boys!)
It was a real adventure for me trying to get to the Bug In.  The day started with me meeting up with Jim Smith (Low Oval) and we started the 2 hour caravan to Fontana.  Getting off the 15 freeway in Corona (1/2 way) to pick up Jims bro Robert (who is in process of building a sweet car himself!)  I hit the brakes on the off ramp and of all things the two bolts holding my front brake calipers had disappeared!!!!  Pedal to the floor.  No brakes.  I limped to Roberts house on the e-brake, parked in front and looked to see a large pool of brake fluid and a caliper hanging loosely on a hydraulic line.  I called my mechanic friend Daniel and sent Jim and Robert on their way.  An hour or so later Daniel had run by his shop to pick up some parts, he showed up, slapped a new line on, screwed some bolts in the caliper and I FINALLY made it to Bug In by 10 a.m.   He saved my a$$.  I MADE IT!
So, I am sure the pictures may tell a better story themselves, it was a great day for us Deeeks.  We missed and reminisced those not there but truly enjoyed the surprise and pleasure of the number of cool people that showed.
Here are some pics I took, I did not take many.  Oh, I had an amazing experience, I look over at one point and someone is actually taking a picture of MY CAR!  Do you have any idea how long it has been since someone was interested in photgraphing a car I owned?  Its been a few decades.  Really cool.  Great day and a mean sunburned neck.

Oh Darn it, I"ve got so much to do today but I just have to begin posting some of the pics from yesterday.  WHAT A BLAST!!  We had 18 of us in a group photo.  How did that happen?

I'll start with Susy!  I think she should jump clubs and join DKK.  She is just the best!  Here are some of her racing.  She did pretty great yesterday!  Susy, the Twins enjoyed watching you.  You're their hero!!

I had such a fantastic time.  My Twins are hooked!  I'm happy to say the VW gene was passed down to them.  I think they enjoyed meeting DKK the most.  Favorites:  FRED, WORM, Tod & Dan.  They sure love you guys.  You are all still funny and crazy!  And my poor husband didn't know what hit him when we met up for dinner last night.  The girls just couldn't stop.  They want a Bug SO BAD!!  They want to be in DKK too : )  So poor Vincent is out numbered and I think we can take him.  I'm predicting a VW in our future.... that might just turn into the Twin's first car some day.  I can be creative with this sales job Roll Eyes.  Poor Hubby, I hope he forgives me some day for this.  Yep.... I got sucked in, didn't I?  Darn you Tod!!  I think it was the ride in the car that pushed us over.  I'll get some more pics up asap.
Enjoy!!

Scott,  remember to allways check those caliper bolts before long trips.  140 miles yesterday and over 20 mpg.

The bug in was definitly worth while. We made the drive down Saturday afternoon from nor cal and were just in time for the Hero mixer. What an event that was. So many idols, great collections (Thanks to Frenchy, Randy @ old bug.com, and Greg Bunch) Absolutly awesome to see all those great items. Nice to see you Frenchy, it had been a while. Also, a big congrats to Richie Webb on his blistering 9 second pass! That thing is a beast! Now Larry MCK has a challenge for Sac bug-o-rama.

You think the Orange car in the line up with the two roof racks is totally track ready?  I bet the aerodynamics on that scooter are fabulous.

As the fine comedian John Pinnette says..."Get outta the line!"

Ha

Mark! Where are you?  Where's the pics dude.  I saw you taking pics...... Where are they?

It should be noted here that the lack of action photos was due to the lack of ACTION.... countless oil-downs and boffo's set the show back over two hours; the lunch break coming at 2:15 pm Angry.
